Mercy Me

Scripture Reference: Psalms 136:1-3

Psalms 136:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever. 3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Mercy - 1. Leniency and compassion shown toward offenders by a person or agency charged with administering justice 2. A disposition to be kind and forgiving 3. The feeling that motivates compassion (wordweb)

Usually when I use the dictionary to define a word I hope to bring out something that you never really thought about that existed in the meaning of the word

However with a word like mercy I think that the dictionary definition falls way short of the true essence of the word

Though I offer a dictionary definition of the word I would much rather you continue to use the meaning as it applies to your life experiences rather the dictionary definition.

This word certainly has special meaning to the word of God because an entire Psalm was dedicated to explain just how much it meant to the writer of Psalm 136

I would like to place mercy in a monetary form seeing how we all at one time or another have dealt in this way if we deal with money at all.

The only way that a person with money can give mercy to a person that owes them is if he has more money to sustain him until the borrower is able to repay him. The longer that the borrower needs to repay the lender the more money that the lender will have to have to sustain himself

Isn’t it just awesome how the bible says that God’s mercy endures forever

I mean even the richest man that has ever lived would not be able to make a statement like this

This means that God will never run out of resources to sustain himself which means that He will always be able to supply our every need

The bad part about this however is that many saints have decided that since we serve such a merciful God that they can get away with taking his mercy as weakness

Please believe me that there is absolutely nothing weak about God.

Though he has allowed you to get by without fulfilling your obligations that in no way means that he has forgotten or excused you.

Unlike attempting to repay a bank God gives us everything that we need to repay him with

You will not need any outside resources when paying God

He will give to you that you may be blessed by giving back to him

It is truly remarkable how a completely innocent and needy borrower becomes an evil thief and cheat when he allows the devil to trick him into thinking that he is getting away with not repaying a loan that he promised that he would repay. The crime becomes that much worse when the person has the resources to repay and decides not to.

How many of us have allowed Satan to trick us into deciding not to repay God

How many of us have purposely forgotten about the word we gave to God in the beginning now that we are in the middle of the contract and we see that we are prosperous.

This is called a breach of contact and the penalty for such an action is a one way trip to hell

I realize that since no one has ever returned from hell to tell you how much you don’t want to be there that you don’t believe that hell is real but saints I would like to say to you (again) that hell is real and a breach of contract will cost you a trip there

Right now you are only living in a temporary place but your ability to keep the contract that you agreed to will determine where you will spend eternity

I beseech you saint to come to the realization that God’s mercy in no way signifies weakness and though he promised us that his mercy shall endure forever he fully expects us to keep the word that we made with him when we signed the contract.

As we read the 136th Psalm we see various situations that they are talking about in which the Lord brought them through

I am sure that there are some situations that God has brought us through that we can sing praises for as well.

Here is something that you can try at home.

Try to replace some of the things that the people in Psalms 136 were singing praises to God for with things that are prevalent to you right now

Like saving your marriage, saving your life, helping you to pass a course at school. I am simply trying to name a few things that you can be thankful for however there are several things that God has done for you that you can be thankful for that I can never mention only you know for sure where God has brought you from
