Summary: Looking for a few good men.
THE HARVEST
Mt 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly [is] plenteous, but the labourers [are] few;
Mt 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
I. HE ASKS US TO PRAY FOR THE HARVEST.
A. HOW THE CASE STOOD.
“The harvest truly is plenteous”
1. May we see them as Christ saw them.
“As sheep having no shepherd.”
2. May we be moved with the same compassion.
B. HOW CRITICAL THE SITUATION WAS.
1. The problem was critical
“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are
few.”
a. How encouraging to hear
“The harvest truly is plenteous”
b. How disturbing to hear
“The labourers are few.”
2. Prayer was crucial.
“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will
send forth labourers into his harvest.”
a. Be in touch with the throne of God.
b. Be in tune with the will of God.
II. HE ASKS US TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HARVEST.
A. HE WANTS US TO HAVE A VISION.
1. “Lift up your eyes.”
“Pr 29:18 Where [there is] no vision, the people perish:”
2. “Look on the fields”
B. HE WANTS US TO VOLUNTEER.
Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
1. God is waiting for you to yield.
2. Are you willing now to say yes?
