Luke 1:26-38 Happy Mother's Day
1. A Mother's Salute - 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said,
(a) The Word of ENRICHMENT - 28 Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
(b) The Word of ENLIGHTENMENT - 31 behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. -
i. The Mystery of His Person: A Son, A Sovereign, A Saviour.
ii. The Majesty of His Position - 32 and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
iii. The Ministry of His Purpose - and shalt call his name JESUS.
(c) The Word of ENABLEMENT -
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
(a) God's Power shall be on thee - Holy Ghost shall come upon thee
(b) God's Presence shall be over thee - overshadow thee:
(c) God's Purpose shall be of thee - 35 therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
2. A Mother's Surrender - 38 Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
(a) The BURDEN of her SURRENDER - 38 Mary said - Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, .... that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (b) The BASIS of her SURRENDER -
I. THE HEAVENLY PLAN ANNOUNCED (26-33)
II. THE HUMAN PROBLEM ADDRESSED (34-37)
III. THE HUMBLE PRAYER AFFORDED 38 Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
A. God's Work - “handmaid" B. God's Will - "be it unto me"
C. God's Word - "according to thy word" (c) The BLESSING of her SURRENDER. 35 ..... "therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."
1. Fret Not - He loves you - John 13:1 - having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2. Faint Not - He holds you - Ps 66:8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard: 9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
3. Fear Not - He keeps you - Psalm 121:5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
3. A Mother's Song 46-49 - SHE HAD:-
(a) A SONG OF PRAISE 46 Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
(b) A SONG OF PERFORMANCE - not about Mary, but about God
51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
(c) A SONG OF POWER
55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
I. MARY DISCOVERED THAT:- GOD'S PLANS ARE ETERNAL.
II. GOD'S PROMISES ARE UNFAILING
III. GOD'S POWER IS UNLIMITED.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
4. A Mother's Salvation
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
