Summary: It is often said that everyone has a guardian angel but the Bible teaches otherwise.
GUARDIANS ANGELS: DOES EVERYBODY HAVE ONE?
"But to which of the angels has He ever said: ’Sit at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet?’ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?" Hebrews 1:13-14.
I. SOME IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT ANGELS
They are spirit beings that can take on human form:
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2.
Their number defies our comprehension:
"But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels. Hebrews 12:22.
They are mighty in power:
"Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word!" Psalm 103:20.
"And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men." Matthew 28:2-4. (Consider also Revelation 20:1-3.)
II. THE MINISTRY OF ANGELS TO MANKIND
"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service…”
Service they render: protection or deliverance in time of trouble:
“And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas my master! What shall we do?’ Elisha answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” II Kings 6:15-17.
“Then Daniel said to the king, ‘O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions mouths, so that they have not hurt me.” (6:21-22).
“Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, ‘Arise quickly!’ And his chains fell off his hands.” Acts 12:7.
III. GUARDIAN ANGELS: WHO HAS ONE?”
“…those who will inherit salvation." We can thus conclude that every child of God and every one who will one day accept Jesus Christ as their Savior now has a Guardian Angel assigned to their care!
