Encourage us to celebrate God's faithfulness, grow in our knowledge of Him, and live our lives rooted in His fullness, as guided by the teachings in Colossians 2:6-10.
Good morning, church family! I'd like to start today with a quote from A.W. Tozer, a respected Christian author, who once said,
"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."
This reminds us of the importance of growing in our knowledge of God and living in His fullness.
Today, our focus will be from the book of Colossians, chapter 2, verses 6-10, which reads:
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority."
Like the A.W. Tozer quote, this passage reminds us to celebrate God's faithfulness, to grow in our knowledge of Him, and to live in His fullness. It's not just about knowing God, but about living our lives rooted in Him, being thankful for His faithfulness and surrendering ourselves to His authority.
Let's start with a prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for your unwavering faithfulness. We ask that You guide us as we delve into Your Word today. Help us grow in our knowledge of You and live a life that is filled with Your fullness. Open our hearts and minds to receive Your truth and grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Now, let's dive in.
Celebrating God's faithfulness is about recognizing and appreciating the steadfast love and dependability of God in every circumstance of our lives. God's faithfulness is a constant, unchanging attribute of His character. It's His unwavering commitment to keep His promises, regardless of our own faithfulness or lack thereof.
Evident in His creation: Every sunrise and sunset, every changing season, and every breath we take is a testament to His faithfulness. The regularity and predictability of these natural phenomena are a reflection of God's dependability. He is a God of order, not chaos, and His faithfulness is demonstrated in the consistent, orderly patterns of nature.
Demonstrated in His Word: Throughout the Bible, we see countless examples of God's faithfulness to His people. From His covenant with Abraham to His deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, God consistently fulfills His promises. Even when His people are unfaithful, God remains faithful. This is beautifully illustrated in the book of Lamentations, where the prophet Jeremiah, amidst the ruins of Jerusalem, declares, "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Evident in our personal lives: Each of us can testify to times when God has been faithful to us, even when we didn't deserve it. He has been our provider, our protector, our comforter, and our guide. He has been faithful in the big things and in the small things. He has been faithful in the joys and in the trials. He has been faithful in the victories and in the defeats. His faithfulness is not dependent on our circumstances; it is rooted in His unchanging character.
Responding to it: It's about living a life of gratitude and praise. It's about trusting in His faithfulness, even when we don't understand what's happening in our lives. It's about leaning on His faithfulness, even when we feel like we're falling. It's about resting in His faithfulness, even when we're weary and burdened.
Sharing it with others: It's about testifying to His faithfulness in our lives, so that others may be encouraged and strengthened in their faith. It's about proclaiming His faithfulness to a world that desperately needs to hear it. It's about being a living testimony of His faithfulness, so that others may come to know and experience it for themselves.
