Growing As A Christian
Psalms 92:12-14
Intro: The believer is birthed into the family of God as a babe in Christ. The Lord never intended for us to remain babes, however, and he has given us the tools whereby we may grow. We see this growth in the child of God in this passage.
I. The Righteous Shall Flourish Like The Palm Tree: The palm tree is an unusual tree.
A. It has stature: great heights
B. It has strength: to withstand storms
C. It has Spring: snaps back
D. It will only grow in warm climates. Die in cold places.
E. Palms are often associated with a tropical paradise. The house of God is our paradise… under the unction of God.
To flourish is to grow, to thrive, to achieve success, to prosper, to be in a state of activity or production, to reach a height of development or influence. All of these things are desirable and attainable in the life of a child of God.
II. He Shall Grow Like A Cedar In Lebanon:
This Cedar Tree is:
A. Very Great
B. Very Strong
C. Very Hardy
D. Very Beautiful
E. An Evergreen.
F. Its wood is expensive, fragrant, sweet, and insect repellent.
G. Its boughs afford a pleasant shade.
H. It lives many years. It is an ancient tree, and it grows as long as it lives.
I. It thrives on the mountainside.
III. Growing As A Christian:
A. v. 13: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
B. v. 14: They shall bring forth fruit in old age.
C. v. 14: They shall be fat and flourishing (green).
I Peter 2:2-3
Are you satisfied with where you are with God? Are you satisfied to grow no more? Have you grown in grace as you should? In Judgment will God be pleased with your progress? What’s hindering your growth? Get rid of it today, and draw near to God.
