THEME - UNDERSTANDING WHO WE ARE IN CHRIT

LESSON 4 - GROWING AND OPERATING IN THE SONSHIP

TEXT - ROMANS 8:14-23

INTRODUCTION-John 14:18

The value that God has over our relationship with him is so great that only He understands it fully. He loves and protects that relationship of father and son, we have with Him. The spirit of Christ dwells in us and this gives us the privilege and right to call ‘’Abba father’’.

THE SONSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST-John 1:1-14, 1 John 5:1-3, Luke 1:35

The charge against Jesus, was that He claimed to be the son of God- Matthew 27:43, John 19:7; a claim He never denied but admitted- Luke 22:70. Demons called Jesus the son of God- Luke 4:41, Mark 3:11. Peter revealed it- Matthew 1:15-17. Jesus is the firstborn- Col 1:15 and first begotten- Col 1:18, Heb 1:6, Rev 1:5. As the son, He is same with the father in equality and identity- Isaiah 9:6. In the sense of begotten, it does not mean Jesus has a beginning but it is so, for our understanding of the relationship we have with God.

OUR SONSHIP IN JESUS CHRIST-Eph. 1:4, Rev. 13:8, Rom 8:14

God agreed or made a covenant to make in His own image; sons of God- Gen.1:27. A son is neither male or female but his spirit- Gal. 3:28. Adam was the first son. He gave up the status of a son when He gave up communion with his father and it resulted to the status of an orphan. We become sons of God through Jesus Christ- Eph 1:5-6, John 14:1-2, Gal 4:4-7. Begotten by the word- 1Peter 1:23-24, James 1:18. A son has origin- John 17:5-24, Luke 1:32-35. Has the same resemblance with his father- John 10:30, Heb 1:3. A son has duties- John 8:16, John 14:1. Has a family/home- John 14:1-2. A son has inheritance- Phil 4:19, Eph 1:11-14, Ps 16:5

RESPONSIBILITIES OF SONS

Answer to the father/intimacy- Mark14:36, Obeys the father- Matt 26:42

Manages the field/resources- Gen 2:15, Matthew 21:28-32

Manages the family- Joshua 1;1-10, John 21:16-17

Preaches and teaches the orphans/slaves- Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 6:7-13

Rebukes devourers and enemies- Luke 4:18, Luke 9:1, Acts 10:38

WE ARE NOT ORPHANS-John 14:18, Gen 4:16-18

Judas is called the son of perdition (destruction)- John 17;12 But in John 6:71, he was called the son of Simon. We use this to explain being fatherless spiritually. When you reject the instruction and love of the father you are taking the position of an orphan Luke 15:11-32. The spirit of orphancy for man started with Adam and passed to Cain till presently. It is only an orphan that forgets home-Gen 50:24-26, Gen 49:29-32.
