Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
The growth of a Christian is complex and involves many change agents like God’s Word, fellowship with other believers, personal prayer, and worship. The growth comes from God and his exclusive work in our lives.
Today we're going to talk about growing in our faith. You know, like how a tiny seed grows into a big, strong tree. But first, let me show you something cool.
Check out this little plant I have here. It started as a tiny seed, and now it's growing into a beautiful plant. But it didn't just magically grow overnight. It needed the right conditions - good soil, water, sunlight, and time. Just like this plant, we need the right conditions to grow in our faith.
Just like this plant, we need the right conditions to grow in our faith.
Our main Bible passage today is 1 Corinthians 3:5-9. It talks about how we're like a field that God wants to grow. But here's the thing - we can't make ourselves grow. That's God's job. Our job is to create the right environment for growth.
So, what does that look like? Well, we need to be in God's Word, hanging out with other believers, praying, and worshiping. These things help create the right conditions for God to work in our lives and help us grow.
But sometimes, we might find ourselves in situations that aren't great for growth. Maybe we're hanging out with the wrong crowd or doing things we know we shouldn't. In those moments, we need to make a choice to change our environment so that God can help us grow.
And you know what? Growth isn't always easy. Sometimes we face tough times and challenges. But those challenges can actually help us grow even more. Just like how a plant needs to push through the soil to reach the sunlight, we need to push through our struggles to grow stronger in our faith.
So, here's a practical idea for you: this week, take some time to think about your own life. Are you creating the right environment for God to help you grow? If not, what changes can you make? Maybe it's joining a youth group, spending more time in prayer, or finding a mentor to help guide you.
"God, thank you for wanting us to grow in our faith. Help us to create the right environment for growth in our lives. Show us what changes we need to make and give us the courage to make them. We trust that you'll help us grow into the people you want us to be. Amen."
1. What are some agents of growth in a Christian's life?
2. How can we create an environment for growth in our lives?
3. How can we differentiate between unhealthy situations and seasons of adversity that God may be using for growth?
4. How can we support and encourage each other in our spiritual growth?
5. What is one area in your life where you would like to see growth, and what steps can you take to cultivate that growth?
