This sermon explores knowing God more deeply through understanding His grandeur in creation, His grace in redemption, and His greatness in majesty.
Good morning, dear friends. It’s a joy to gather together again, to share in the fellowship of one another, to sing praises to our God, and to sit under the teaching of His Holy Word. Today, we will be turning our hearts and minds towards the grandeur of God, His grace in redemption, and His greatness in majesty.
Opening Scripture Reading – Let's begin by reading our key scriptures for today's sermon. From the book of Colossians, chapter 1, verses 16 and 17, "For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." And from the book of Acts, chapter 5, verse 30, "The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree." Lastly, from the book of Psalms, chapter 145, verses 1-3, "I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable."
As we contemplate these passages, we are reminded of the words of the esteemed theologian, J.I. Packer, who once wrote, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." Indeed, our purpose, our very reason for being, is to know God, to understand His grandeur, His grace, His greatness.
As we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, we are drawn to the majesty and grandeur of our Creator. The scriptures we read earlier from the book of Colossians remind us that all things, both in heaven and on earth, were created by Him and for Him. This is a profound truth that we often take for granted. But let's pause for a moment and really think about what this means.
When we look at the world around us, we see the handiwork of God. The beauty of a sunrise, the complexity of a human cell, the vastness of the universe - all these point to a Creator who is not only immensely powerful but also incredibly detailed. Every atom, every molecule, every star in the sky was created by Him and for Him.
This is not just about the physical world. The invisible world - the world of thoughts, emotions, relationships, and spiritual realities - was also created by Him and for Him. The ability to think, to feel, to love, to worship - all these were given to us by our Creator. They are part of His grand design, His grandeur in creation. He is before all things and in Him, all things hold together. This means that not only did God create everything, but He also sustains everything. The sun rises and sets each day because of Him. The seasons change because of Him. Our hearts beat, our lungs breathe, our brains think because of Him.
In the book of Acts, chapter 5, verse 30, we find a profound statement, "The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
