Summary: Women! Arise to become great women of God!
Great mom!
Exodus 2:9”And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it. “
When Hudson Taylor was 15 years old, on a particular day, his mom rose from the dinner table that afternoon with an intense yearning for the conversion of her boy, she went to her room and turned the key in the door, resolved not to leave that spot until her prayers were answered. She prayed for several hours pleading God for the salvation of her son, until she could pray no longer; she then further went on to praise God in faith for answering her prayer. Now let me tell you what happened to Hudson Taylor who lived about eighty miles away from home, since he was free and bored in the afternoon, he creeps into his father’s library and picks up a gospel tract to read things that interest him and leave the rest. But the words ‘'The finished work of Christ’ touched him immensely and Hudson Taylor felt that Christ did everything for him on the cross and paid the debts and there was nothing left for him to do, with tears he surrendered his life into His Hands. Such is the power of the persistent prayer of a dear mother!
When Hudson Taylor was 21 years old, his mother went with him to the ship to send him off to China as a missionary. With a mother’s loving hand she smoothed the little bed in his cabin that was to be his home for the next six months and then with a prayer and hymn they parted. Hudson tells about this farewell parting in his autobiography: “As I stood alone on the deck and she followed the ship, as we moved towards the dock gates, I shall never forget the cry of anguish wrung from that mother’s heart. It went through me like a knife. I never knew so fully, until then, what “God so loved the world” meant. And I am quite sure that my precious mother learned more of the love of God to the perishing in that hour than in all her life before.” A mother cannot surrender her 21 year old son to the mission field if she did not love and trust her God immensely. She swallowed the pain of separation for the salvation of the poor souls of China. Amen. Great mom!
I want to talk about Jochebed the mother of Moses who handed over her son, when he grew up to Pharaoh’s daughter and went back home. (Exodus 2:10)
It is no small matter for a mother to give away her child and I’m sure she went back home and fell at the feet of the Lord and wept. Parents with grown up children would know what I am talking about. It’s great when you have toddlers cling to you but when they grow up and tell you ‘I can manage’ that’s when the mom has the great task of upholding the child in prayers. What do you think Jochebed would have done during the months of weaning the child? She must have talked to little Moses about Jehovah and must have told him over and over again that he was a Hebrew and not an Egyptian. Moses when he came of age, walked out of the palatial Eqyptian palace because His passion for God was more than the perishing riches. The early years of teachings from his mother helped him to stand for God and take a right decision and not fall for the temptations of the world. Praise the Lord! Great mom!
