To encourage them to obey the Great Commission

IV. TEXT:

Matthew 28:18-20

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Pray: Oh Father, we pray for us to obey the Great Commission in JESUS's Name

All christians are to obey the Great Commission

VII. EXPLICATION:

C. Audience: Jews

D. Purpose: To show that JESUS is the Kingly Messiah of Jewish Prophecy.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Highlights:

1. The LORD told His disciples:

a. Disciple - is a follower of the LORD.

= We imitate the LORD (Luke 14:27)

Luke 14:27

And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.

= Give up everything for the LORD (Luke 14:31)

Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him?

2. Complete authority given to the LORD. (Matthew 28:18)

Matthew 28:18

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

a. Authority in heaven and on earth

b. He will give all authority to the Father. (1 Corinthians 15:24)

After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power.

3. Command: Go and Make disciples of all nations

a. It requires that you are a disciple, knowledge of the LORD and His Words, and able to teach people.

b. We have the Word of GOD to teach (2 Timothy 3:16)

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

c. We have the Holy Spirit to guide (1 John 2:27)

1 John 2:27

But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

4. Baptize them in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

a. Submit them to water baptism

5. Teach them the Word of GOD and obedience to it.

a. Obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22)

But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.

b. Reward in obedience (Exodus 19:5)

Exodus 19:5

Now if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me

6. The LORD is always with us even to the end.

a. He will be the One to do it not us (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.

b. Stand still and see His Salvation (Exodus 14:13)

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.

IX. CONCLUSION:

The LORD will be with us, we only need to obey and follow.
