Summary: Teaching teens their Commisssion from Jesus.
Great Commission
Intro: what is it?
1: Commission
a) task or work given to produce a particular work
b) Jesus commissioned them to carry out a particular work
c) 1 Timothy 2: 4 will have all men saved, and come unto the knowledge of the truth
d) God doesn’t want any to perish, 2 Peter 3:9 not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance
Point:
Jesus gave the Great Commission to those who would be tasked with founding the Christian church. The Apostles had the task of preaching Jesus and teaching the world all the things he had taught them. To carry out the Great Commandment and this Great Commission thus turning the world upside down; (to quote one Pharisee) people’s lives were being changed.
2: A.D.
a) this commission was given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
b) Matt 28:17 some doubted
c) The 11 went to a mountain and there seen Jesus
d) Some were still uncertain about what was happening
Point: he was dead, we saw him beaten, nailed to a cross and hung up on Golgotha, and we saw him die. But still he remains, here he is, could you imagine the moment?
Body: all power
1: All
a) everything and anything
b) there is no boundary that can escape the power of Christ
c) there is no task or opposition that can overcome or over power our Lord
d) Jesus had to establish this in these men
Point:
In heaven and earth, nothing is left out or behind, the power of life and the power to overcome death and hell. The messiah, the one who takes the sin of the world away, Jesus Christ who is Lord and Savior above all, the Pharisee’s couldn’t stop him, the Romans couldn’t kill him, the Devil couldn’t keep him and Death couldn’t hold him. These men who stood before him had to know and trust he was who he said he was… cause they we’re to be commissioned to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
2: Go ye
a) to lead, to carry over or transfer
b) it’s your time
c) to direct lives to me
d) to transfer salvation to a lost and dying world
Point:
It was time for them to share with the world what they had and what they learned and seen while they walked and lived with Jesus Christ. GO first word of the Great Commission.
3: Teach
a) instruct all nations
b) don’t meet a stranger
c) but encounter all as to enlighten and instruct in the ways of the Gospel
d) people have so much information, but lack true knowledge
e) they lack knowledge of Christ because Christians lack evidence in their lives of Christ
Point:
Christian you are the only Bible some people will ever read!!! Doesn’t make it right, doesn’t mean you have to be perfect, it does mean that you have to understand who you serve. We should help others to find their identity in Christ, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
4: Always
a) at all times
b) through the past, present, and future
c) I am with you always even unto the end of the world.
d) Never a time when he isn’t with you
e) Never a place you go he isn’t there.
Conclusion: the love we have for God and others is the fuel we use for carrying out this Great Commission, Jesus spoke to these men and empowered them and entrusted them with the task and the tools to bring light into darkness, to heal the sick, save the lost, and help the hurting. This commission wasn’t just for them or a select few in the church today, but for every born again believer.
