Titus 3:8 (Amplified Bible)

3:8 This message is most trustworthy, and concerning these things I want you to insist steadfastly, so that those who have believed in (trusted in, relied on) God may be careful to apply themselves to honorable occupations and to doing good, for such things are [not only] excellent and right [in themselves], but [they are] good and profitable for the people.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Grace teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness and worldly passions

"It has trained us to reject and renounce all ungodliness (irreligion) and worldly (passionate) desires,"

Daniel 4:27 (Amplified Bible)

4:27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you; break off your sins and show the reality of your repentance by righteousness (right standing with God and moral and spiritual rectitude and rightness in every area and relation) and liberate yourself from your iniquities by showing mercy and loving-kindness to the poor and oppressed, that [if the king will repent] there may possibly be a continuance and lengthening of your peace and tranquility and a healing of your error.

Hosea 10:12 (Amplified Bible)

10:12 Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap according to mercy and loving-kindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you.

Matthew 5:20 (Amplified Bible)

5:20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness (your uprightness and your right standing with God) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Grace puts us away from ungodliness and worldly passions, we are in this world but we are not of this world.

B. To live self-controlled lives

"to live discreet (temperate, self-controlled),"

Proverbs 16:32 (Amplified Bible)

16:32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his [own] spirit than he who takes a city.

Acts 24:25 (Amplified Bible)

24:25 But as he continued to argue about uprightness, purity of life (the control of the passions), and the judgment to come, Felix became alarmed and terrified and said, Go away for the present; when I have a convenient opportunity, I will send for you.

Romans 6:12 (Amplified Bible)

6:12 Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions.

Grace teaches us to live self-controlled lives according to His special instructions and from the HOLY SPIRIT.

C. To live upright and godly lives in this present age

"upright, devout (spiritually whole) lives in this present world,"

Psalms 7:10 (Amplified Bible)

7:10 My defense and shield depend on God, Who saves the upright in heart.

Psalms 32:11 (Amplified Bible)

32:11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you [uncompromisingly] righteous [you who are upright and in right standing with Him]; shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Proverbs 2:7 (Amplified Bible)

2:7 He hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him); He is a shield to those who walk uprightly and in integrity,

2 Timothy 3:12 (Amplified Bible)

3:12 Indeed all who delight in piety and are determined to live a devoted and godly life in Christ Jesus will meet with persecution [will be made to suffer because of their religious stand].

2 Peter 3:11 (Amplified Bible)

3:11 Since all these things are thus in the process of being dissolved, what kind of person ought [each of] you to be [in the meanwhile] in consecrated and holy behavior and devout and godly qualities,
