Good News

Summary: God has given us Good News though the birth, life, death and resurrection of His Son. In this lesson we look at how Jesus has given His life and ask ourselves how can we give our life back to Him.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. – Luke 2:10-11
I. What is the good news
a. The good news is NOT that everything in the world or our lives is going to be perfect
i. The Bible actually tells us to expect some hard times – James 1:2
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; – James 1:2
ii. God uses these trials to strengthen us and grow our faith – James 1:3-4
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. – James 1:3-4
b. It is the fact that Christ has come
i. He Birth put in motion 1,000’s of years of planning and waiting on God’s part – Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
ii. It proves how much God and Jesus really love us – Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8
II. Why is the good news important
a. We were destined for an eternity in hell – Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. – Romans 6:23
b. God has given each one of us an opportunity to redeem ourselves – Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. – Romans 10:9-10
III. What can I do with the good news
a. Praise God for His son – Psalm 29:2
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. – Psalm 29:2
i. If we can really grasp the reality of what Jesus saved us from, we would have no choice to praise Him
ii. The day is coming when that will happen – Heaven
b. Live the way God wants you to live – Colossians 3:17
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. – Colossians 3:17
c. Share the good news with others – Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. – Acts 1:8
Final Thought: Jesus came to die so that you can live. So, how are you going to live for Him?
