Matthew 6:1

Matthew 6:1 Take heed that you do not do your merciful deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in Heaven.

Mat 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. (KJV)

V. THESIS:

Good works are proof that we are children of God.

VI. TITLE:

GOOD DEEDS AND REWARDS

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Time of Writing: 100-140AD

B. Matthew was known as collector of the oracles

C. Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1)

D. Audience: The multitudes on the sermon on the mount and the 12 disciples

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Good Works Are Not For A Show

1. It was intended for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Eph 2:8 I mean that you have been saved by grace because you believed. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God.

Eph 2:9 You are not saved by the things you have done, so there is nothing to boast about.

2. The Lord is saving us from being hypocrite (Luke 12:1)

Luke 12:1 Many thousands of people came together. There were so many people that they were stepping on each other. Before Jesus spoke to the people, he said to his followers, "Be careful of the yeast of the Pharisees. I mean that they are hypocrites.

B. God, The Father Is The Rewarder Of Our Good Works Not Men (Matthew 6:4)

Matthew 6:4 Your giving should be done in private. Your Father can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.

IX. CONCLUSION:

Pray that God will give us the rewards for the good works not seen by men.

Challenge: To accept God's gift of Grace to us.
