Summary: Here Jesus mentions about a group of people who were ‘lovers of money!’

Gold rush, push!!!!

Luke 16:14” …..lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.”

Apple sells 9 million 5S, 5C iPhone in just three days! People wait for 20 hours to purchase the latest iPhone 5S model in New York, Tokyo and other cities! But alas the churches are empty! I write this with tears!

As the young people come out of their schools and enter their professional colleges; they walk in with vibrant , colorful dreams of moving to one of their favorite countries, it may be US, Canada, one of the European countries or Dubhai. What do you think is their main aim? Make heaps and heaps of money! As I look around at the youngsters, my heart pains to watch them glide through life without any commitment and determination. The churched and un-churched crowd are the same. We have given our life to eating, sleeping, making money and roaming. The ones that do want to make it in life, are going the wrong way. Hearken to His voice today please!

Here Jesus mentions about a group of people who were ‘lovers of money!’ God says in verse 15, “You are those who justify before men, but God knows your heart..” Dear friend, there are many out there who would justify for buying that expensive car on loan, for buying that laptop, the huge TV or for investing in that property. Life is not all about just investing money on luxury and stretching more and more to buy more and more. One day you would collapse! I received a phone call from a brother who said, “I am not able to take it anymore, I am planning to sell the house.” We usually visit this brother’s place during our ministry visit to that city, he had built a palatial house on huge loans, then immediately he purchased a two wheeler, computer and much more, but very soon he reached a stage of ‘breakdown’. We need to learn to handle our finances! It’s not all about sweating it out or breaking our brains or swindling and cheating but it’s all about being sincere, faithful and truthful to God. Did you get that? Many do not bat their eyelid to swipe their credit card and stuff the whole shop into their cart. We need to prioritize, we need to balance our life and not live like so and so. Let us never ape somebody else life style. Stop and look at your monthly credit card statement. Notice the ‘interest rate’ charged on you. Many do not care to look at the statement or look at the expenses but just pay the ‘monthly due’. Have you realized the payments are piling up and so is the interest? Open your eyes friends! Fact is, we live in a culture that has decided that we have the prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong. No wonder God cannot bless his people with the riches of heaven because we are not ‘trust worthy’. We may not be bank robbers and internet frauds but still, if we are foolish in the area of money then we are sinning. Catch that?

I Timothy 6:9-10, “But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many griefs.” Isn’t that true?
