INTRODUCTION
God’s original intention for man was rooted in purpose, authority, and intimacy. Unlike any other creature, man was created in God’s image, reflecting His character, wisdom, and dominion. This divine design positioned humanity to exercise authority over creation, steward resources, and partner with God in manifesting His glory on earth.
However, man’s failure to fully align with God’s design through disobedience led to distortion of his purpose. Many today live below their original design, unaware of the authority, creativity, and fellowship God intended for them.
Understanding God’s original intention restores identity, confidence, and direction. This message teaches that living according to God’s design allows man to thrive spiritually, materially, and socially, fulfilling the mandate of dominion and divine fellowship.
1. MAN WAS CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD
Being made in God’s image confers dignity, authority, and responsibility.
a) Reflecting God’s character (Genesis 1:27)
Humanity carries attributes of God—rationality, creativity, morality, and relational capacity.
b) Identity comes from God (Psalm 8:4–5)
Recognition of divine image gives confidence and value beyond worldly measures.
c) Authority is inherent (Genesis 1:26)
Dominion over the earth and creatures was part of God’s design for man.
d) Responsibility accompanies authority (Ephesians 2:10)
God intends that man’s actions reflect His glory and purpose in the world.
Biblical Example:
Adam exercised stewardship over the Garden of Eden, tending and keeping it in accordance with God’s design (Genesis 2:15).
2. MAN WAS CREATED FOR DOMINION AND STEWARDSHIP
God intended man to rule over creation responsibly.
a) Dominion is a divine mandate (Genesis 1:28)
God entrusted man with authority over animals, plants, and resources.
b) Stewardship requires wisdom (Proverbs 3:19-20)
Proper management aligns with God’s principles and ensures sustainability.
c) Influence extends to all creation (Colossians 1:16)
Humanity has the power to impact creation positively or negatively.
d) Accountability is required (Luke 12:48)
Dominion must be exercised responsibly, reflecting God’s order.
Biblical Example:
Joseph’s stewardship in Egypt transformed a nation, demonstrating faithful dominion over resources (Genesis 41:46-49).
3. MAN WAS CREATED FOR INTIMATE FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
Man’s relationship with God was central to his purpose.
a) Walked with God in Eden (Genesis 3:8)
Fellowship with God was daily, personal, and direct.
b) Fellowship produces guidance (John 15:4-5)
Connection with God ensures spiritual fruitfulness and direction.
c) Relationship sustains authority (Psalm 1:3)
Prosperity and influence flow from alignment with God’s will.
d) Obedience maintains intimacy (1 John 1:3)
Close fellowship requires living according to God’s principles.
Biblical Example:
Enoch walked with God faithfully, demonstrating that intimacy with God produces a life that pleases Him and escapes judgment (Genesis 5:24).
4. MAN WAS CREATED TO FULFILL GOD’S PURPOSE ON EARTH
Man’s life was meant to glorify God and extend His kingdom.
a) Co-labour with God (Genesis 1:28)
Humanity’s work and creativity advance God’s plans on earth.
b) Purpose drives destiny (Isaiah 43:7)
Every individual is created to glorify God and fulfil a divine mandate.
c) Productivity reflects God’s design (Ecclesiastes 3:13)
Enjoying the results of labour aligns with God’s original intention.
d) Influence impacts generations (Psalm 78:4)
Living in purpose leaves a legacy of blessing and faith for posterity.
Biblical Example:
Abraham fulfilled God’s purpose through faith, becoming a blessing to nations and demonstrating the impact of living in divine intention (Genesis 12:1-3).
CONCLUSION
God’s original intention for man was to reflect His image, exercise dominion, steward creation, and enjoy intimate fellowship with Him. This design ensures purpose, authority, and influence over the earth and its resources.
Believers are called to rediscover their divine identity, embrace their authority, and align with God’s original intention. Living in accordance with this design restores fulfilment, joy, and spiritual effectiveness.
