Summary: What does it mean to "train yourself to be godly?"

GODLY TRAINING

I TIMOTHY 4:7-8

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives tales, rather, train yourself to be godly.

What does it mean to train yourself to be godly? Four words or phrases stand out to me...

1. TRAIN

This word speaks of effort, discipline, hard work, dedication.

It says that

• it is hard,

• it takes effort,

• it is not for everyone,

• it is not natural

2. YOURSELF

• You can't expect others to do it for you

• you are personally responsible

But the help of God is definately there for us.

3. TO BE

Not ... to talk

Not... to pretend

Not... to plan to be

Not... to try to be

4. Godly

To be godly means to be ...

God-like..........consistant with what we know of God

God-pleasing

How do we train ourselves to be Godly?

What exercises do we do?
