‘God Writes’

John 8:1-10

1. God Wrote Law…Exodus 31:18 “When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.”

a. God wrote the Ten Commandments-they are the law

b. They show us the difference between right and wrong

c. What is Sin? And, what God hates. God hates sin. John 2:13-16 “When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of Cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the moneychangers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!”

d. We somehow have forgotten that simple truth

e. We have come accustomed to sin. We live in a world that says its alright for a man and woman to live together and not be married. We say it’s all right that abortion is performed.

f. Nothing shocks us anymore. Sin has become OK.

g. Psalm 119:133 “Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.”

h. John 8:34 “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”

i. 1 John 3:9 “No one is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.”

j. The law was written for us as a guide as a commandment. What we should and shouldn’t do.

k. How we should pattern our live.

l. Somehow we have become complacent to sin. We have allowed gray areas in our lives. God has no gray areas. Sin is Sin.

m. The law makes us conscious of our sin.

n. Romans 3:20 “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law, rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.”

o. The law makes us aware of our sin

p. Romans 7:7 “What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “Do not Covet.”

q. God wrote the law, so you and I would know how we should act, and so we would realize our sins.

r. We are all sinners, no doubt about that. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, but God hates when we sin. He hates the sin. If he did not hate sin, then he would not have written the law.

s. God wrote the law, because he hates sin.

2. God Wrote Judgment Daniel 5:5 “Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lamp stand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote.” Verse 26 “ God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”

a. King Belshazzar thought nothing of God’s Law, and he was judged.

b. He thought there was no God.

c. It’s all right to be an atheist, just don’t die.

d. Illustration of Bear and Atheist

The Bear and the Atheist

An atheist was walking through the woods looking at the beautiful trees and flower that had just bloomed. Because he was an atheist he couldn’t thank anyone for the beautiful landscape that he was witnessing. As he was gazing at the sky he saw a bear running toward him, he jumped up and began to run up the hill. Not knowing any better he continued to run up the hill, a bear runs best up a hill because of his strong hind legs, it is better to run down a hill, but any way… The atheist fell to the ground and thought a second and said well I don’t believe there is a God but maybe this one time I will call upon His name. The atheist said “God, I need help!” Since I don’t believe you exist, I have a request. Will you make this bear a christian? Just then the wind stopped howling, the creek stopped running and the bear stopped - knelt to the ground and said “Dear Lord, Please bless this food that I am about to eat!”

e. If we pay no attention to God’s Law and we as a nation and we as Christians refuse to see sin as sin, we will be judged. God will judge us.
