IV. TEXT:

Philippians 2:13 (New International Version)

for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

Philippians 2:13 (Amplified Bible)

[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.

V. THESIS:

GOD works in us according to His good purpose

VI. TITLE:

3. To encourage them to a lifestyle of unity, holiness and joy

D. To whom written: Philippian believers

E. Main theme: JESUS CHRIST

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. To will according to His good purpose

"[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will"

1. What are some of GOD's will

a. Renew the mind, don't conform to the world

Romans 12:2 (Amplified Bible)

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

b. We are to be sanctified.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 (Amplified Bible)

For this is the will of God, that you should be consecrated (separated and set apart for pure and holy living): that you should abstain and shrink from all sexual vice,

c. Give thanks in all circumstances

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (Amplified Bible)

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].

d. He will equip and work in you His will

Hebrews 13:21 (Amplified Bible)

Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to Whom be the glory forever and ever (to the ages of the ages). Amen (so be it).

e. Suffer for doing good

1 Peter 3:17 (Amplified Bible)

For [it is] better to suffer [unjustly] for doing right, if that should be God’s will, than to suffer [justly] for doing wrong.

f. Live our earthly life for GOD

1 Peter 4:2 (Amplified Bible)

So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by [his] human appetites and desires, but [he lives] for what God wills.

g. Speak from GOD

2 Peter 1:21 (Amplified Bible)

For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it [to do so—it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.

h. Ask according to His will

1 John 5:14 (Amplified Bible)

And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us.

B. To act according to His good purpose

"and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight."

a. Only the LORD GOD can act and no human being can. Yes, human beings can act by their own human effort but it will end up in failure.

Psalms 119:126 (Amplified Bible)

It is time for the Lord to act; they have frustrated Your law.

Wrong: GOD will do His will in us.

Right: GOD will put His desire and act on our behalf in our lives according to His good purpose.

IX. CONCLUSION:

GOD will put His desire and act on our behalf in our lives according to His good purpose.
