God Takes Care Of Me

Genesis 18: 20-21 “And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know”.

When people get into trouble usually the first thing they do? They cry out thinking or saying is “Oh God”, or “Oh my God”, or “Jesus”. If you stop a moment and think, there is comfort in saying the word “Jesus”. In these days that we are living it is easy to get off track and get ourselves in trouble. I want to encourage you today to know that God is in control. Several things to remember:

I. GOD HEARS OUR CRY:

A. Just as it was in the beginning when the Israelites wound up in Egyptian bondage, it was one day that they realized they were not in God’s perfect plan, they were in bondage as slaves. If we are to be a slave we must be bound to and a slave to God. After enough they finally cried out to God.

B. Here in our text today God had heard the cries of His people that were in Sodom and Gomorrah. He heard the cries of the poor being taken advantage of. The cities had become unsafe due to the sins of violence and greed. When man gets into trouble today he will pray and cry out for help. I do believe things happen for one of two reasons, either a circumstance beyond our control or the way we are living. God is listening and He hears the cry of His people.

II. GOD WILL PROVIDE:

A. Just as God called Noah to build the ark because of all the wickedness in the world, as He called Moses to deliver His people from Egypt, He has called Abraham to stand for the righteous that are residing in the evil of Sodom and Gomorrah. God has always used man for His purposes.

B. God can and He will call His servant however, His servant first must be willing. The called must be willing to surrender self and to be obedient. Abraham was obedient. God told Abraham that He had heard the cries of the oppressed in Sodom & Gomorrah and that He was going to check it out. He would act according to what He discovers there.

C. Noah was chosen to build an ark and to prepare for the end of the world. Abraham was chosen as an intercessor where Noah was chosen as a sort of savior. As Noah built the ark he encouraged those to join him in the ark of safety as God had gotten fed up with mankind. Destroy the world and start over. Abraham was to stand before Sodom & Gomorrah on behalf of God regardless of whether those in the city were lost or saved. Moses was chosen to go into Egypt on behalf of God and lead his people out of bondage.

III. GOD WILL ACT:

A. God is not an evil God nor is He slack concerning His promise as He would rather everyone

come to repentance rather than to perish. He is a loving and compassionate God that wants the best for His people. However, we are given the freedom to choose. Those in the two cities were given the opportunity to leave as was those in Noah’s day. God intended to destroy the cities but would spare them for ten righteous people. God does not act hastily but rather out of compassion. Compassion being “love in action”.

B. Once again, God has always used man. He could have at anytime called thousands of angels to handle any situation yet He still today chooses to call and to use those that are willing.

IV. CAN GOD USE YOU:

A. Are you willing to be used of God today? Are you willing with no strings attached? Do we need a full explanation from God as to what we are to do before we decide to do it? Are we like a Nike Christian, “JUST DO IT?”

B. I believe just as the Good Samaritan walking down the road finding someone in need in the ditch, we too need to be looking for a need. There are people everywhere that are oppressed that I believe still call out to God, and I believe God still hears those cries. Are we too busy to act? Can God use you today?

Closing:

Let God use you. Be open every day to be used of God. He still today is meeting needs. I believe that if Jesus Christ himself were to walk the earth today He would not be looking for a prominent place to worship, rather He would be looking for a need!!
