God Still Leads His People. Proverbs 3:5-6
Contributed by David Cramer on Dec 12, 2025 (message contributor)
Summary: A message of hope for our future by following the Word of God and the hope it brings.
Stand with me and hold up your Bible and repeat after me.
This is my Bible.
I am what it says I am.
I have what it says I have.
I can do what it says I can do.
Today I will be taught the Word of God.
I boldly confess:
My mind is alert.
My heart is receptive.
I will never be the same.
In Jesus’ name—Amen.
GOD STILL LEADS HIS PEOPLE
The God who led Abraham, Moses, David, and the prophets still leads His people today.
Across Scripture, Old and New Testament, God repeats one truth:
“Trust Me. Surrender. Let Me lead.”
The problem is not that God doesn’t speak —
but that we often listen to everything except God.
Walking with God means learning to lean, listen, and follow Him above all else.
I. OLD TESTAMENT CALL TO TRUST
Turn with me in your Bible to Proverbs 3:5–6 and say, "Amen" when you are there.
1. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart…”
The Hebrew for trust means:
“to lie helplessly face-down, fully relying on another for strength.”
It is the picture of a child resting in a parent’s arms.
This is God’s call:
“Stop trying to carry everything. Lean on Me.”
2. “And lean not on your own understanding…”
We often:
overthink
overanalyze
try to control
try to plan God out of the picture
God says:
“Your understanding is limited. Mine is perfect.”
3. “In all your ways acknowledge Him…”
Acknowledge means:
“Bring God into the equation.”
“Make God the first thought, not the last resort.”
4. “And He will direct your paths.”
Not “might.”
Not “sometimes.”
He WILL.
His direction includes:
divine clarity
supernatural protection
closed doors
opened doors
God-ordained connections
God-ordained interruptions
When God leads, He leads well.
II. NEW TESTAMENT CONFIRMATION
Turn with me to Matthew 6:33
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches anxious people how to live without worry.
He says:
“Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God…
and ALL THESE THINGS will be added to you.”
Notice the order:
1. Seek God first
2. Everything else follows
3. Worry is replaced with peace
Jesus is not giving a suggestion —
He is revealing a kingdom principle:
Whatever you put first determines everything else.
III. ILLUSTRATION: THE GPS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Imagine driving without a GPS.
You second-guess every turn.
You panic when you miss an exit.
You rely on your limited understanding.
That’s what life is like without God’s leading.
But when the Holy Spirit guides:
He recalculates when you make mistakes
He knows shortcuts you don’t
He knows roadblocks you can’t see
He knows dangers you don’t recognize
He guides you to the right destination
Trust turns God’s voice into your direction.
Years ago, a missionary couple felt God calling them to a small island in the Pacific.
They had no financial guarantee.
They had no promise of safety.
They had no long-term plan.
They simply had a word from God:
“Go.”
They sold everything.
People thought they were reckless.
Friends said, “It’s impossible.”
Family said, “It’s too dangerous.”
But they said:
“If God leads, we will trust.”
Not once — not one single time — did God fail them.
When they arrived:
people welcomed them
a home became available
food was provided
a church family grew
souls were saved
God met every need
Years later they said:
“We did not walk by money or security.
We walked by trust.
And God walked with us every step.”
HOW TO TRUST GOD FIRST
1. Trust God with your future
You don’t know tomorrow — God does.
2. Trust God with your health
He is healer, restorer, sustainer.
3. Trust God with your finances
Provision follows obedience.
4. Trust God with your relationships
God removes the wrong people and sends the right ones.
5. Trust God with your calling
If God called you, He already has the plan.
6. Trust God with timing
Delay is not denial — God is preparing you.
7. Trust God with the impossible
Your weakness is the perfect place for His strength.
“Today, if you are carrying worry, fear, or uncertainty…
If you are facing a major decision…
If your heart is tired from trying to control everything…
If you feel lost or directionless…
This altar is for you.”
“Come and lay your understanding down.
Come and surrender the situation.
Come and trust again.
Come and place God first.”
“Your breakthrough begins with surrender.
Your direction begins with trust.
Your peace begins when you put God first.”
Pray this with me.
“Lord, I surrender my plans.
I surrender my fears.
I surrender my understanding.
Lead me, guide me, direct my steps.”
“Holy Spirit, speak clearly.
Break fear.
Break confusion.
Restore confidence.
Give direction.
Release peace.”
“We choose to trust You, God.
Take control.
Have Your way.
In Jesus’ name — Amen.”
