Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
The sermon encourages perseverance on the path of holiness, trusting in God's guidance and divine plan, despite obstacles and difficulties encountered along the way.
Good morning, beloved family of God. It's a joy to gather with you today in this sanctuary, a haven of hope and healing, where we come together to lift our hearts to the Lord, our Divine Driver.
We find ourselves today on the precipice of a profound passage in the prophetic book of Isaiah, a passage that paints a picture of a path paved by the providence of God. Isaiah 35:8 says, "And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way. The unclean will not journey on it; wicked fools will not go about on it."
This is not just any path, dear friends. This is the Heavenly Highway, the Trustworthy Trail, the Way of Holiness. It's a path that is marked by the majesty of our Maker, a path that is illuminated by His infinite love, a path that is designed for us, His children, to tread upon with trust and thanksgiving.
As we prepare to unpack the treasures tucked within this text, let us recall the words of the renowned preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "By perseverance, the snail reached the ark." Isn't that a beautiful reminder, dear friends? That no matter how slow our progress may seem, no matter how many obstacles we may encounter on our path, we are moving forward, we are making progress, because we are on the path that God has laid out for us.
God’s not just a guide, but a driver, leading us along a path that He has specifically designed for us. This path, the Heavenly Highway, is a path of holiness, a path that is marked by the majesty of our Maker. It's a path that is illuminated by His infinite love.
Now, when we think of a driver, we often think of someone who is in control, someone who knows the way, someone who is responsible for getting us to our destination safely. That's exactly what God is for us. He's our Divine Driver, the one who is in control, the one who knows the way, the one who is responsible for getting us to our destination safely.
But what does it mean to trust this Divine Driver? It means to have faith in His direction, to believe in His guidance, to rely on His wisdom. It means to surrender our own plans, our own paths, our own preferences, and to submit to His will, His way, His wisdom.
The first aspect of trusting the Divine Driver is understanding that He is in control. In our lives, there are many things that we cannot control. We cannot control the circumstances that come our way. We cannot control the actions of others. He is in control of everything. He is the one who holds the universe in His hands.
The second aspect of trusting the Divine Driver is believing in His guidance. God doesn't just lead us on a path; He guides us along it. He doesn't just point us in the right direction; He walks with us every step of the way. He doesn't just show us the way; He shows us how to walk in it. He guides us with His love, His grace, His mercy.
Also is relying on His wisdom. God's wisdom is infinite. It's beyond our comprehension. It's beyond our understanding. It's beyond our knowledge. But we can rely on it. We can trust it.
Finally is surrendering to His will. This is perhaps the most challenging aspect of trust. It's easy to trust when things are going our way. It's easy to trust when our plans align with God's plans. It's easy to trust when our path is smooth and straight. But what about when things don't go our way? What about when our plans don't align with God's plans? What about when our path is rough and winding? That's when trust becomes a challenge. That's when trust becomes a choice. That's when trust becomes a commitment.
Trusting the Divine Driver is a daily discipline. It's not a momentary choice, but a lifelong commitment. It's not a fleeting feeling, but a firm foundation. It's not a casual concept, but a core conviction.
The Heavenly Highway is a vivid metaphor for the spiritual journey that each of us is called to embark upon ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
