This sermon explores God's might in miracles, obedience, and divine protection through the story of Rahab and the spies in Joshua 2:1-7.
Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ. It is a joy to stand before you today, not by my own strength, but by the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are here today, not as individuals, but as a family, a community of believers united by the love of God. We are here to learn, to grow, to be challenged, and to be comforted by the Word of God.
We are here today to behold the might of God in the book of Joshua, a book filled with epic narratives of faith, obedience, and divine intervention. Today, we will be focusing on Joshua 2:1-7, an intriguing passage that displays the mighty miracles of God, the manifestation of obedience, and the might of God's protection.
As we look at the narrative of Joshua 2:1-7, we see a clear display of God's mighty miracles. The first miracle we see is the divine guidance given to the spies. Joshua, the leader of the Israelites, sends two spies to scout the land, especially the city of Jericho. This was a dangerous mission. The spies were entering enemy territory, where they could easily be captured or killed. But God, in His infinite wisdom and power, guided them safely into the city.
The spies ended up in the house of Rahab, a prostitute. Isn’t that a bit wild?! This might seem like an unlikely place for God's servants to find refuge. But God often works in ways that we don't expect. He used Rahab, a woman of questionable reputation, to provide a safe haven for His servants. This was no coincidence. It was a divine orchestration, a miracle of guidance and protection.
The second miracle we see in this passage is the transformation of Rahab. Rahab was a Canaanite, a member of a people group that was often at odds with the Israelites. She was also a prostitute, a profession that was looked down upon. But when she encountered the spies, something changed. She chose to align herself with the God of Israel, to risk her own safety to protect God's servants. This was a miraculous transformation, a change of heart that could only have been brought about by the power of God.
Next is the protection of the spies. When the king of Jericho heard that there were Israelite spies in the city, he sent men to Rahab's house to capture them. But Rahab had hidden the spies and sent the king's men on a wild goose chase. This was a dangerous gamble. If the king's men had found the spies, Rahab would have been punished for her betrayal. But God protected both Rahab and the spies. He kept them safe from harm, demonstrating His power and His faithfulness to His people.
Finally, we see in this passage the escape of the spies. After the king's men had left, Rahab helped the spies escape from the city. She let them down through a window and gave them instructions on how to avoid the king's men. This was a daring escape, one that could easily have ended in disaster. But God was with them. He guided them safely out of the city and back to Joshua. This was a miracle of deliverance, a testament to God's power and His care for His people.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in this passage, we find ourselves standing in the midst of a scene that is teeming with obedience ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
