All of God's promises are certain and sure because of Jesus Christ, and even in our darkest hours, these promises shine brightly, giving us hope and assurance.

Introduction

Good morning, family. We're diving into the Word today to explore a powerful truth that can transform our understanding of God's nature and His relationship with us.

We'll be looking at 2 Corinthians 1:20, which states, "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God."

Let's hang on to that promise from God, folks. All of His promises are a resounding "Yes" in Him and a firm "Amen" in Him. In other words, all God's promises are certain and sure because of Jesus Christ.

To help us digest this profound truth, we're going to borrow words from David Nicholas. He once said, "God's promises are like the stars; the darker the night, the brighter they shine." Isn't that a powerful image, folks? Even in our darkest hours, God's promises shine brightly, giving us hope and assurance.

So let's bow our heads and open our hearts in prayer.

Dear Lord, as we delve into your Word today, we ask for your guidance and wisdom. Help us to grasp the certainty of Your promises, deepen our faith, and bring glory to Your name. May the truth of Your Word transform our lives and inspire us to live for You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Now, let's dive in.

Yes in Him

When we say that God's promises are 'Yes' in Him, we are acknowledging that God is not a God of ambiguity, but of certainty. His promises are not conditional or tentative, but rather, they are absolute and unchanging. This is a truth that should bring us great comfort and assurance in our walk with God.

The original Greek: The word for 'Yes' is 'nai', which means 'certainly' or 'surely'. This emphasizes the certainty of God's promises. When God makes a promise, He is not merely suggesting a possibility or expressing a wish. Instead, He is declaring a truth that is as certain as His own existence. This is a powerful testament to God's faithfulness and reliability. We can trust in His promises because they are rooted in His unchanging character.

God's promises is found in Jesus Christ: Jesus is the embodiment of God's promises. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus has fulfilled the promises of God and made them accessible to us. This is a profound truth that underscores the centrality of Jesus in our faith. Without Jesus, God's promises would remain distant and unattainable. But in Jesus, they become a reality that we can experience and enjoy.

Our participation in the fulfillment of God's promises: As believers, we are 'in Christ'. We share in His life, His death, and His resurrection. This means that we also share in the fulfillment of God's promises. When we abide in Christ, we can experience the certainty of God's promises in our own lives. This is a powerful incentive for us to remain faithful and committed in our relationship with Christ.

We often struggle to trust in God's promises: We are easily swayed by our circumstances and our feelings. We doubt God's promises when we face trials and hardships. We question God's faithfulness when our prayers seem unanswered. But the truth is that God's promises are not dependent on our circumstances or our feelings. They are rooted in His character and fulfilled in Christ. Therefore, even when we doubt, God's promises remain certain and sure.
