God’s Program for Deliverance

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

I. You Must Submit to God

a. God resists the proud and the proud resist God

i. He gives grace to the humble

II. You Must Resist the Devil

a. The devil entices humans

b. He uses humans to entice (Peter, drugs, drink, old girlfriend, gossiper)

c. If you don’t resist him he will stick around

i. The devil gains a foothold if you give any ground

d. Resist the devil now before he destroys you

III. You Must Draw Nigh to God

a. A matter of our affections

i. Old desires must be replaced

b. Clean hands/pure hearts

c. Motive for obedience

i. Reformation vs. heart transformation

d. If you do His will you will abide forever
