Introduction

Last Week- the rise of David’s Mighty Men.

Valiant men- gathered- make David King- form army.

God- raising up an army today- mighty men of COTR

1Chr 11:1-3

God established David as shepherd/prince over Israel, likewise Jesus Christ is our shepherd/prince.

David made a covenant w/the people, Jesus Christ has made a covenant w/us through His blood.

1Chr 11:10

Started while David was a fugitive, rejected by Saul.

When David became King these men-raised up w/him

Today- world- rejected Jesus as their shepherd/prince.

If we gather around Him as His mighty army, when He is raised up we will be raised up with Him.

Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. NASU

Who- raised up? Those who make Christ their life.

Col 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. NASU

When the natural dies, the spiritual is resurrected.

1Chr 11:15-19

V17 David- born in Bethlehem, tended flocks.

In the fields David learned to rely on God/know God.

David would go to the well for refreshment.

Jesus- born in Bethlehem …

Jn 4:9 Samaritan woman- well- Living Water.

V18 Men responded to a desire/wish in David’s heart.

Should we be more sensitive to God’s heart?

David would not drink the water …

He could have used the water for himself, instead he gave it back to God- poured it out,

honoring men willing to pour out their lives.

We are called to pour out our lives as drink offerings to God, honoring Christ- gave His life-blood for us

Mtt 26:6 Mary-costly perfume-disciples indignant

Mary could have used the oil/money for herself.

There are a lot of things we have that we can optionally use for ourselves or pour out on God.

These men willing to pour out their life for David.

Show video clip- soldiers coming home

Politics aside- these men/women are dying for us.

Many are pouring out their life-blood for our freedom, as Jesus poured out His life-blood for our freedom.

Psa 22:14 I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax;

It is melted within me. NASU

Jesus is the Living Water and the Life giving Blood.

We are also called to pour out our lives for God.

Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Our body represents our life- essence of who we are.

Present- to come beside, to make oneself available.

Mtt 26:53 "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Two examples of how we can respond to God’s call to live a poured out life …

1. The Rich Young Ruler

Mk 10:17-22

This man had an opportunity, an option, to decide whether to pour out what he had for God or not.

2. Zaccheus

Lk 19:1-10

Much different outcome than the Rich Young Ruler.

This man responded to the message of the Kingdom of God and poured his life out upon God.

Called from engineering to serving God

Chris Schoff- called from Harris to Guatemala.

Some practical applications …

1. Prayer

Praying, reading the Bible, and Meditating.

Meditation- reflect on how to apply God’s Word.

Mtt 26:36-41

Sacrificing time we would use for something else.

2. Praise

Heb 13:15 Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. NLT

With every breath we should praise God.

3. Life and Service

Php 2:17 But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. NLT

Life- even in difficulties, is to be lived for God.

Service- pour out our talents/resources to God.

4. Giving

Lk 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure — pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return." NASU

God cannot pour into you unless you pour out for Him

If you are hear not giving Biblically- robbing God.

Mal 3:8 "Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ’How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. NASU

Whether believe the tithe is for today or not- NT takes giving to a much higher level.

In the NT- all belongs to God- we are stewards.

$30,000- 10% $3000- use for myself or give to God?
