Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Encourages us to trust in God's unchanging faithfulness, surrendering our need to understand everything, and experiencing peace, joy, and hope in His promises.
Hello friends,
Welcome! It's wonderful to see each and every one of you here today. You are not here by accident. God has orchestrated this moment, this gathering, and has a divine purpose for us. We are here to bask in the Word of God, to examine His promises, and to seek His wisdom.
Our focus today is on Proverbs 3:5, a verse that many of us might already have etched on our hearts. It says,
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
Isn't that beautiful? Isn't that powerful? It's an invitation to trust, an invitation to rely not on our own wisdom, but on God's. It's an invitation to surrender, to yield, to let go of our need to understand everything, and instead, to trust in the One who does.
As we ponder this verse, we will be looking at the theme of God's faithfulness. We will be examining the fulfillment of God's promises and the fruitfulness that comes from trusting in His faithfulness. These are not just abstract theological ideas. These are real, tangible truths that can change our lives, that can bring us peace, joy, and hope.
Oswald Chambers once said, "It is not our trust that keeps us, but the God in whom we trust who keeps us." Isn't that a relief? Our trust is not in our own ability to trust, but in God's unchanging, unfailing faithfulness. God is not like us. He does not change. He does not fail. He does not break His promises. And that is why we can trust Him.
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word. We thank You for Your faithfulness. We thank You for Your promises. As we reflect on Your Word today, we ask that You would open our hearts and minds to understand the depth of Your love for us. Help us to trust in You with all our hearts. Help us to lean not on our own understanding, but to trust in You, the One who is faithful, the One who is true, the One who is trustworthy. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let’s get started!
When we consider the character of God, we find a steadfastness that is unparalleled. His faithfulness is not a fleeting attribute, but a defining characteristic. It is not a mere aspect of His personality, but the very essence of who He is. This faithfulness is not dependent on circumstances or influenced by our actions. It is constant, unwavering, and unchanging.
God's faithfulness is revealed in His promises: Throughout the Bible, we see God making promises to His people. These are not empty words or hollow declarations. They are commitments made by a God who cannot lie. When God makes a promise, He keeps it. He is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind. His word is reliable and trustworthy.
God's faithfulness is seen in His actions: From the creation of the world to the redemption of mankind, God's faithfulness is evident. He created the world and everything in it, and He sustains it by His powerful word. He made a covenant with Abraham, promising to make him the father of a great nation, and He fulfilled that promise. He delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, led them through the wilderness, and brought them into the Promised Land. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins, and He raised Him from the dead, conquering sin and death once and for all.
God's faithfulness is manifested in His love: His love for us is not based on our performance or our worthiness. It is not conditional or contingent on anything we do or don't do. His love is steadfast and unchanging, just like His faithfulness. He loves us with an everlasting love, a love that is constant and unchanging. He loved us before we loved Him, and He will continue to love us no matter what.
God's faithfulness is demonstrated in His presence: He is not a distant God, but a God who is near. He is not absent or aloof, but present and involved. He is with us in every situation, in every trial, in every joy and sorrow. He will never leave us nor forsake us. His presence is a constant reminder of His faithfulness.
