GOD’S CALLING ON YOUR LIFE
It was 2009, when I made the decision to study ministry. I cannot tell you why, it was just a strong urge to serve God more. I left it, did some research on Christian schools and colleges but never really bothered. I carried on with me, by 2010 the urge to do something fulfilling was even stronger and distracting me from normal daily life. I spoke to my Pastor whom informed to study the word of God, I started to pray about it and that then led me to study. As I think about it, there was no loud voice booming out of the sky telling me to study, no demands that I had to do it or that I must do it, just a deep inner feeling, a wanting, and a desire to fill that part that was empty.
So how do we start working with God for God?
Make the decision – let God be in control, give up your control over life and give it to God (Proverbs 16)
Study the word of God – get to know God through His word (John 1:1), view situations with a view God would use (2 Tim 2:15)
Surround yourself with people who are further along in the journey – having a spiritual leader that can counsel you and teach you to learn from your mistakes. (1 Cor 11:1)
Never give up – see the progress you have made, be positive, give thanks at all times
God always uses people and situations to speak to us in many different ways. He gave us all different gifts and desires for a reason. God wants us to dedicate our lives, every area of our lives to Him, to be who we were created to be. God can and does call us at different stages in our lives, for some people the call is very clear and for others it is not and takes a while.
So how do we recognise a divine call in our life?
First of all we must first PAY ATTENTION – we must be open to the Holy Spirit in our lives and look for God in all aspects of our life. We need to pay attention to whatever is going on around us on the outside and listen to that still small voice within.
When we get restless, bored in our jobs or a situation happens maybe it is a push in a new direction.
The next step is to listen to other people. (By people I mean ones that are spiritually mature, not every Tom, Dick and Harry) they often have more clarity because they can step back and look at your situation more objectively, they are not emotionally involved. God is maybe using them as His messengers.
Then the most important thing to do is TO PRAY ABOUT IT, DISCUSS IT WITH GOD. A nice way to say it would be: ‘speak Lord, your servant is listening.’
Be still and listen for the word of God, pay attention, notice your thoughts and feelings, be aware of signs and blocks. Look for a way to open before you and notice when the way closes behind you. Be open at all times to the Holy Spirit.
God will call us out of our comfort zone; people sometimes don’t want to hear what God has to say through other people. Rest assured when we follow God’s call, GOD WILL GUIDE us every step of the way, it will often be into the unknown and we will have to do things that require courage and faith on our part.
The call is the work of God that opens our eyes to see Christ as true and powerful, wise and beautiful, compelling so that we receive Him for salvation. God’s call is His life-giving command: COME!
If you are a believer today, that is how you got saved. God called you out of darkness into His marvellous light. This call was effective; it produced in you what it called for. It is like a command of WAKE UP! That someone uses to wake you up from a deep sleep, if they whisper in your ear would you actually wake up or carry on sleeping. You lean over their ear while they are asleep and cry out WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!!!.
They bolt upright. It accomplished what it commanded. This is the way God raises us from spiritual death and only God can do this. He did it for you. He loved you enough to call you!
Ephesians 2:4 says: ‘It was because of God’s great love that He made us alive when we were dead.’ God woke you up to the ugliness of sin and the beauty of a great saviour. Now in calling us, he has united us to Christ, He grafted us into the life of His son. Christ then becomes our wisdom, righteousness, our sanctification and our redemption. Christ is everything we need.
