Life can be a maze of options, choices, decisions and goals. At times one can feel overwhelmed with choice itself. In America when you walk into a grocery mart you find a dazzling selection of 10 different types of apples or 20 different tomato sauces, that in itself can be shopping the just food seem complicated! When it comes to Christian life and our calling and purposes in life we can start to feel scared to miss God's will or be outside of God's will. There is a valid sense that we can sin and fall away from some purposes God desired for us to accomplish. Yet as we cast our cares on the Lord daily and commit our ways to him (Psalm 37:5) he can cause our paths to be straight (Proverbs 3:6). In the passage in revelation we see that God is the one that opens and closes the door. In other words he is the one that in life can make things work or not work out, be plain or be confusing. And to add to that he can make it so that a situation cannot be reversed or changed.
We see in the vision that Ezekiel was given that there was a gate on the east side of the template that would "remain shut" for the Lord Himself has entered through it (Ezekiel 44:2). This speaks of a future time that the Lord Jesus will enter through this gate fulfilling prophecy written 3000 years ago. But aside from that we can see a principle of truth that God is able to shut and open doors and nothing can stop this. We believe that is able to sovereignly work in the world and princes, kings and rulers cannot stop the Lord even though they desire to try in vain (Psalm 2:2). We can have confidence as believers in Jesus that as we trust and rely on him doors of opportunity will open that no man can shut. Likewise doors will shut for ministry opportunities and work that no man can open. We have to trust the Lord in this way and have confidence as children of God that we cannot err as long as we have our hands clasped in the nail crucified hands of Jesus Christ. Do not be paralyzed with fear of missing God's will rather go forward with child-like confidence that He will not let you err from doing His will as you life your Christian life.
