INTRODUCTION:

Our God is a holy and righteous God. He is not only merciful and loving but also absolutely just and upright in all His ways. Righteousness is not just something God does—it is who He is. His very nature and character are righteous, and He governs the universe in perfect justice and holiness.

In a world filled with compromise, moral confusion, and injustice, the righteousness of God stands as a solid anchor for His people. God’s righteousness ensures that He always acts in truth, fairness, and purity. He never makes mistakes, shows favouritism, or accepts bribes. His standards are perfect, and His judgments are always right.

As believers, we are called not only to trust in God’s righteousness but also to walk in it. Through Christ, God has made a way for us to be declared righteous and empowered to live righteously. This sermon explores what it means for God to be righteous and how we can reflect His righteousness in our lives.

1. GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS IS HIS DIVINE NATURE

The righteousness of God is foundational to who He is.

a) God Is Righteous in All His Ways (Psalm 145:17)

Everything God does is right—He makes no errors and shows no injustice.

b) Righteousness Is the Foundation of His Throne (Psalm 89:14)

His authority is established on perfect justice and truth.

c) God Judges with Righteousness (Isaiah 11:4)

He defends the poor and executes justice with fairness.

d) He Cannot Be Corrupted or Perverted (Deuteronomy 32:4)

He is a Rock—His work is perfect and all His ways are just.

Biblical Example: Abraham appealed to God's righteousness when pleading for Sodom—"Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Genesis 18:25)

2. GOD IMPARTS RIGHTEOUSNESS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

Human beings cannot be righteous on their own, but God provides righteousness as a gift through faith in Christ.

a) Our Righteousness Is Like Filthy Rags (Isaiah 64:6)

Human efforts fall short of God's perfect standard.

b) Christ Is Our Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6)

He is called "The Lord our Righteousness."

c) Righteousness Comes by Faith in Jesus (Romans 3:22)

It is imputed to all who believe, not earned by works.

d) God Declares Us Righteous by Grace (Romans 3:24-26)

Through the blood of Jesus, we are justified freely.

Biblical Example: The thief on the cross received righteousness through faith in Jesus, not by works (Luke 23:39-43)

3. GOD CALLS BELIEVERS TO WALK IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

We are not only declared righteous, but we are also empowered to live righteously.

a) The Righteous Live by Faith (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17)

Faith in God leads to a lifestyle that pleases Him.

b) The Righteous Practice Righteousness (1 John 2:29)

Our actions should reflect the nature of our righteous God.

c) Righteousness Guards the Upright (Proverbs 13:6)

Living righteously protects us from destruction.

d) God Delights in the Righteous (Psalm 5:12)

He surrounds them with favour as a shield.

Biblical Example: Job was described as a blameless and upright man, one who feared God and shunned evil (Job 1:1)

4. GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS IS OUR HOPE AND SECURITY

In uncertain and unjust times, we find confidence in the righteous character of God.

a) God Defends the Cause of the Righteous (Psalm 37:28)

He does not abandon His people in times of trouble.

b) His Righteousness Is Eternal (Psalm 119:142)

God’s character never changes—He is consistently righteous.

c) He Will Judge the World in Righteousness (Acts 17:31)

There is a day appointed when God will make all things right.

d) God Rewards the Righteous (Matthew 25:34-40)

There is an eternal reward for those who live according to His will.

Biblical Example: Daniel remained righteous in Babylon and was preserved in the lion’s den by the righteous God (Daniel 6:1-23)

CONCLUSION:

The God of righteousness is calling His people to reflect His nature. While we cannot attain righteousness by our own strength, God has made provision through Jesus Christ. His righteousness saves, sanctifies, and secures us. In a world darkened by sin, we are to shine as lights of righteousness, upholding the standards of God in our words, actions, and thoughts.

Let us daily honour the God of righteousness by living in truth, pursuing holiness, and standing for what is right. His eyes are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers. He is our hope and our eternal reward.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, I thank You for Your righteousness that never fails.

2. Lord, help me to walk in the righteousness of Christ every day.

3. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and make me holy before You.

4. Lord, raise a generation that will stand for righteousness in this crooked world.

5. Let Your righteousness prevail in my home, nation, and generation.
