INTRODUCTION:
Peace is one of the most desired but often elusive experiences in our world today. Many search for peace in possessions, positions, or people, yet only the God of peace can give peace that passes human understanding. God's peace is not circumstantial—it is eternal, unshakable, and rooted in His divine presence.
From the beginning, God has always desired His people to dwell in peace. The Bible introduces us to God as Jehovah Shalom, the Lord our Peace. This peace does not just mean the absence of trouble but the presence of divine calm, assurance, and rest even in the storm. In every generation, God has shown Himself to be the One who brings calm in chaos and serenity in the face of turmoil.
As we explore this subject, may your heart be filled with the assurance that the God of peace is not distant. He is near, present, and powerful to still every storm and restore your soul.
1. GOD IS THE SOURCE OF TRUE PEACE
No genuine peace exists outside of God. He is the author and giver of peace.
a) He Is Called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
Jesus came to establish a reign of peace in the hearts of men.
b) God’s Peace Surpasses Human Understanding (Philippians 4:7)
It guards our hearts and minds beyond human logic.
c) Peace Is Part of God's Nature and Character (Romans 15:33)
He is not the author of confusion, but of peace.
d) Only in God Can We Have Lasting Peace (John 14:27)
The world gives temporary peace; God gives eternal peace.
Biblical Example: Gideon’s encounter with God as Jehovah Shalom brought courage in the face of fear and opposition (Judges 6:22-24).
2. GOD’S PEACE IS AVAILABLE TO EVERY BELIEVER
God does not reserve peace for a few; it is our portion in Christ.
a) Jesus Gave Us His Peace as a Gift (John 14:27)
Peace is part of our inheritance as His children.
b) Peace Comes from Trusting God (Isaiah 26:3)
He keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him.
c) God Desires Believers to Dwell in Peace (Colossians 3:15)
Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.
d) Peace Is a Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)
It grows as we yield to the Holy Spirit.
Biblical Example: Jesus calming the storm on the sea taught the disciples that true peace is found in trusting Him (Mark 4:39-41).
3. GOD’S PEACE SUSTAINS US IN TIMES OF TROUBLE
God does not promise a trouble-free life, but He promises peace in the midst of it.
a) Peace Guards Our Hearts During Anxiety (Philippians 4:6-7)
Through prayer and thanksgiving, peace keeps us grounded.
b) God’s Peace Gives Strength in Trials (John 16:33)
Jesus assures us that in Him, we have peace despite tribulations.
c) The Peace of God Calms Fear and Worry (2 Timothy 1:7)
God replaces fear with power, love, and a sound mind.
d) Peace Empowers Us to Wait Patiently on God (Psalm 46:10)
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Biblical Example: Paul and Silas in prison sang praises with inner peace that led to divine intervention (Acts 16:25-26).
4. WE ARE CALLED TO BE PEACEMAKERS
Just as we receive peace, we are commanded to share and promote it.
a) Blessed Are the Peacemakers (Matthew 5:9)
They shall be called the children of God.
b) Pursue Peace with All Men (Hebrews 12:14)
Peaceful living is a mark of spiritual maturity.
c) Avoid Strife and Promote Reconciliation (Romans 12:18)
As far as it depends on us, we are to live at peace with everyone.
d) Let Peace Be Your Testimony (2 Corinthians 13:11)
Encourage one another and live in peace, and the God of peace will be with you.
Biblical Example: Abraham chose peace over strife when he let Lot choose first, showing godly character (Genesis 13:8-9).
CONCLUSION:
Our God is the God of peace—not just because He creates peace, but because He Himself is peace. He calms storms, silences fears, heals wounds, and fills hearts with quiet assurance. In this troubled world, only those who know the God of peace can enjoy true rest.
Let us seek His peace, live in His peace, and be agents of peace in a restless generation. The peace of God will preserve you, uplift you, and bring you into His perfect plan.
