Understand and appreciate God's infinite patience and love, and allow Him to work in our lives, especially during our lowest moments, as His grace gives us hope and character through our sufferings.

Introduction

Good morning, everyone! You're all looking mighty fine today. I'm so glad to see you here to share the Word of God with me. Today, we're going to dive into a part of Romans that's all about God's patience, love, and the hope He gives us.

There's this quote from Philip Yancey, "Grace, like water, flows to the lowest part." Grace, my friends, is what God gives us out of His infinite love, and often, it's when we're at our lowest that we see it most clearly.

Allow me to read Romans 5:1-5 to you.

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

Let's join our hearts together in a moment of prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for Your patience and love. We are in awe that You never give up on us, no matter how many times we fall short. Help us to understand the depth of Your love for us as we study Your word today. May our hearts be receptive to Your teachings, and may we learn to give You a chance in every situation. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

Now, folks, let's unpack this rich passage together and explore how we can give God a chance to work His miracles in our lives.

God's Patience and Love

God's patience and love are two of His most profound characteristics that we, as His children, are privileged to experience. These attributes are not only central to our understanding of God but also form the foundation of our faith and relationship with Him.

God's patience: Often referred to as His forbearance, This is His willingness to endure with us, despite our shortcomings and failures. It's His ability to wait on us to come to Him, to repent, and to grow. This patience is not a passive waiting but an active endurance, a constant, unwavering love that hopes and waits for us to turn to Him. It's His refusal to give up on us, even when we've given up on ourselves. This patience is beautifully illustrated in the parable of the prodigal son, where the father waits patiently for his wayward son's return, ready to welcome him back with open arms.

God's love: This is the driving force behind His patience. It's a love that is unconditional, sacrificial, and relentless. It's a love that sent Jesus to the cross for our sins, a love that is willing to forgive us time and time again. This love is not based on our worthiness or our actions but on His nature. God is love, and His love for us is a reflection of who He is. This love is not just a feeling but an action, a commitment to our well-being, our growth, and our salvation.

These two attributes are intertwined: His love fuels His patience, and His patience demonstrates His love. They are two sides of the same coin, each one reinforcing and amplifying the other. This dynamic is evident in our lives as believers. When we stumble and fall, God's love picks us up, and His patience gives us another chance. When we stray, His love calls us back, and His patience waits for our return.

Practical and experiential: It's something we experience in our daily walk with Him. It's in the moments of failure when we feel unworthy of His love, yet He embraces us with open arms. It's in the moments of doubt when we question His plans, yet He patiently reassures us of His promises.

Shapes how we interact with others: As recipients of His patience and love, we are called to extend the same to those around us. We are called to love unconditionally, to forgive generously, and to be patient, just as He is with us. This is not always easy, but with His help, it's possible.

The Door of Hope

The door of hope is the idea that in our darkest moments when we feel lost and overwhelmed, there is always a beacon of light, a door that leads us to hope, and that door is Jesus Christ ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
