Summary: When you need God to come through

27 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

We do not know when David wrote Psalm 27. Some Christians believe that he wrote it in 2 parts. It’s believed He wrote verses 1 - 6 when life was good. God was answering all his prayers and slaying all his enemies, perhaps it was after he had killed Goliath. Perhaps it was written after many victories he won in war. Maybe it was when he danced out of his clothes when the ark of the Lord was brought home. It’s been said When he wrote verses 7-12 was perhaps when life was difficult when he thought that God was hiding from him. Perhaps it was when Saul was fighting against him and trying to kill him. It’s in verses 13-14 when he put the 2 parts together. Other Christians believe that David wrote it all at the same time. In the past God had been good to him. In Psalm 27 we learn that for David life had its ups and downs. The ups were the good times. The downs were the difficult times and it’s almost like David had a diary and he wrote down everything that went on in his life. This happens to us also. When life is difficult we must remember the good times and remember that God is. When we think that God has forgotten us God still is good, we must remember the times when he did not forget us. We must wait for the Lord and even in our waiting He is still good

Here in this psalm David gives three things he says God is, he said God is my light in a dark world where sin has darken our view, and you can’t find your way and you feeling your way through life God is light, then he said the Lord is my salvation in other words He is the rescuer of my soul, he saved me from me and my short comings my disappointments God is my salvation, then he said that the Lord is my strength, when I can’t do it on my own, when life gets too heavy, when the pressures of life moves into my home, into my job, into my family, moves upon my children, upon my health David said God is strength when I’m weak as a matter of fact His strength is made perfect in my weakness the more I realize how weak I am His strength is made perfect

It’s also been said that David was at this time running from either king Saul or from his son Absalom who both was at one point or another trying to kill him, David said in the mist of it all The Lord is my light and my salvation who shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life why should I be afraid, when the wicked even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, just before they got to me God tripped them so they stumbled and fell, why because the Lord is my protector and He won’t let my enemies win. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. He said I don’t have to fear and I can have confident because of who He is. That’s who He was to David but how many of you know I got my own story of who He is to me

God is my shelter in the time of storms and I’m not talking about a physical shelter, I’m talking about when the storms of life comes raging He covered me

When I am sick and can’t get well He is my healer

My mother left me, He is a mother to the motherless, a father to the fatherless

He is the way, truth and life, He is the great I Am

When my friends walked away He’s a friend when I’m friendless

He is a bridge over troubled waters, I know David said earlier He leads me besides the still waters but let me tell all water is not still there is some waters that’s troubled, He is my bridge over those waters. Ya’ll know Him don’t you?

He is my rose of Sharon, He is my Lillie of the valley some of ya’ll don’t believe lilies can grow in the valley, He is my water in a dry and thirsty land where no water is

He is my provider when I have nothing, He is my rock in a weary land, He is the lifter of my bowed down head

He is bread in a starving land, He is a comforter, He is a company keeper when I get lonely, He is my burden barer and my heavy load carrier, He’s my alpha and omega, my beginning and my ending ya’ll know Him don’t you? He is my hope of glory, He is a wheel in the middle of a wheel, Last but not least He’s my savior, my redeemer and He keeps me from falling

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living because my God is
