“God Is All Knowing”

Text: 1 John 3:20-22

“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.”

Psalms 44:21

“Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.”

(KJV)

Scripture Reading: Psalms 37:18; Psalms 103:14; Psalms 139:1-6; Matthew 6:8; Matthew 9:4; Matthew 10: 29-31; Mark 13:32; John 18:4; 1Corinthians 3:20;

Introduction:

The term used, for God is all knowing, is omniscience. He knows all things. God is the Lord who knows our thoughts from afar and is acquainted with all our ways, knowing our words even before they are on our tongues. He needs to consult no one for knowledge or understanding. He is the all-knowing Lord who prophesies the events of the future, including the death and Resurrection of His Son and the return of Christ at the end of this age when death will be finally overcome. (Nelson’s Student Bible Dictionary)

As we can see from the definition of omniscience, God knows every thing about us. He knows our thoughts even if we don’t speak them. He know all about our past. He know exactly what we are going to go through today and what is going to happen to us tomorrow and even 10 to 50 years from now.

I know that is hard to imagine how someone can know all thing about us when we have a hard time remembering what happen yesterday or last week. Just think though God know all about our future but He leaves it a mystery for us.

Let us take a look at some scriptures that tell us more about the all knowing God of the universe and what He know about you and I.

First, Psalm 37:18 “The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.” We as Christians are the upright and He already knows exactly what our inheritance is go to be.

Second, Psalms 103:14 “For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.” God knows what we are made of because He created us. Some, He made stronger and others He made weaker. He made some quick and some slow. And, He said that He would not put more on us then what we could bear meaning both physically and spiritually.

Third, Psalms 139:1-6 “O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my down-sitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.” God knows when we are down and when we are up in very area of our being whether it be mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, or financially. He know it all. He know the words that are on the tip of our tongue before we even speak them.

Forth, Matthew 6:8 “Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.” Have you ever had a prayer answered before you even ask? That is a wonderful experience when God does things that way.

Fifth, Matthew 10:29-31 “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Wow, He knows when a sparrow falls from the sky. He know about the sparrow that is lying died out in the front parking lot of the church. Greater yet, is He knows how many hairs you lost last night while you was sleeping and knows the total number of hairs that remain on your head. That show how much more valuable we are then the animals.

Sixth, Mark 13:32 “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” God is going to send His Son some day to bring us to live with He for all eternity but no one knows when that is going to be excepted for God Himself not even Jesus knows when that is going to be.

Conclusion:

I can not answer the BIG question that is going through your thoughts. All I can say is that He is GOD.
