God In The Hands of Man
Exodus 32:7-14
There seems to be no controversy of the fact that man is in the hands of God. My soul finds repose in the awesomeness of this fact. Then again, how my soul shutters at the thought that such a worm as I as in the hands of such a sovereign God. We are aware that we exits in God's world but also we must know that God exit in man's world.
In this passage, it is apparent by the argumentative dialogue between God and Moses that there is a question of ownership to the Israelite people. God blames them on Moses and likewise Moses blames them on God. In just 40 short days of Moses' communion with God, and entire nation has backslidden into utter depravity. From enjoying God's blessing and their freedom, they have fallen so far from God that they are dancing naked before a golden calf. After God enlightens Moses to their sin, he in turn begs for God to impart mercy instead of justice. The relationship is so great between God and Moses is so great that God discusses his plans with Moses. In great faith Moses beseeches God for mercy until the Almighty God pleads for Moses to let him alone. His faith was binding God!!
The faith that Moses has is so fervent that it is holding God hostage. By this type of faith the infinite God becomes a tool in the finite hands of Moses. Immortality becomes obedient to mortality.
1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled of the word of life.
By our faith God is bound into the hands of man! What an amazing opportunity that we have to hold the eternal God.
We read in Exodus 17:12 that Moses hands were steady until the going down of the sun. It was in the battle that Moses prayer was accomplishing more good for victory that the military prowess of Joshua's army. Faith holds up the token of promise that will invoke the covenant of God with man. The rod of Moses was the token of God's working with him and for him. Let your faith hold up your promise to God.
We, like Moses, often become weary with praying, believing, and striving to have faith. We must allow hope to strengthen our hand as we hold our promise up to God. That hope and promise will become a living faith that can bring the Holy God into our hand. Use your God to your benefit. Let him become our choice tool in the fray of battle that we call life.
Though our eyes bear no witness of God; our heart does testify of His existence in our lives. Not only is God in the world or in our life; my friend He is in our hand!!
