God Got Angry

GOD GOT ANGRY? Obadiah

Intro: This prophecy centers around the hatred the Edomites had for Israel.

Edomites = were decedents of Esau & they held a grudge because Jacob had cheated their ancestor out of his birthright.

The Edomites refused Israel passage through their country (Num. 20)

They rejoiced over the capture of Jerusalem (Ps. 137:7)

I WHAT DID HE DO ? v.1

II. WHAT WAS THEIR SIN?---Pride v.3-4

A. Rejoicing v.12

1. Looked with pleasure

2. Rejoiced over calamity

3. Spoke proudly

B. Looting v. 13

1. Took advantage of the disadvantage

2. Sought gain from others loss

C. Standing v.14

1. They “stood” in the way of escape

2. They “delivered” those who did escape

III. WHAT WAS THEIR ENEMY?

A. Self

1. Seeing themselves better than others

2. Seeking God through ungodly means

3. Secluding others

B. Friends

1. Those they trusted v.1

2. God can use anyone

C. The Father

1. God loves His children

2. God promises to bless His children

3. God promises to curse those against His children

God’s near judgment of Edom in history (vv. 1–14) was a preview of His far judgment on all nations (vv. 15,16) who refuse to bow to His sovereignty

What did Edom do to anger God so much?

What was their big sin?

What was it they did that made God pore out his wrath on them?

What was it they did that provoked God to completely eliminate them from existence?

Answer----They did nothing while the enemy overtook God chosen.

There is an enemy who “walketh about seeking whom he may devour”

God will not hold guiltless those who could help

Folks, there’s a generation that is struggling against the enemy, and WE HAVE THE ANSWER, we got to go get them.
