Summary: The Church is a Body, not a corporation.

Acts 6:2-4

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. KJV

If you are going to properly infuse yourself and be the minister of the Word as you are called to do you will have to learn to delegate, delegate, and delegate! God did not call you to be a CEO, CFO or CIO. You are called to pastor. So many men are bound up in the earthly mundane functions of church that they do not have the needed time to give themselves to the duties of verse four.

I understand that good men are hard to find and in many a small church nonexistent. I basically had two men who ran everything and a third that usually just agreed with whatever the other two said. I stayed out of the mundane as much as possible. Yes, I attended the meetings to ensure they did not decide to something untoward, but as long as they did not do anything illegal or immoral I did not worry about it. Moses delegated according the wise advice of his father-in-law, Jethro, and we should follow that principle as much as we can. It is very hard to hear the Lord speak when you are preoccupied with how you are going to get the fellowship hall decorated for the Father’s Day banquet or which company should take out the garbage. Be informed, but let others perform and have a chance to conform to the servant or minister they are called to be. A person involved and invested is less likely to leave then a person has only shown up and rested or nested.
