Summary: Acts 13:22 is a very significant Scripture Wherein God testifies concerning David and called him a man after His Own Heart. Man’s testimony wavers according to the circumstances but when God says something we need to take a very serious note of it. God does not change His statements.

God's Testimony is greater than that of man. There are several reasons that contributed to the testimony of God for David. This brings us to the question as to who David was, what was so special about him and why God had to testify concerning him. Some of the few points are enumerated below.

1. HIS BEGINNING WAS VERY HUMBLE

It is well said in the Scriptures that humble beginnings are not to be despised. David’s beginning was very humble and I rather also say that he was a rejected one or least considered in his family. When Samuel the Prophet was sent to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons as the King of Israel David was not even invited. After all his seven sons passed by Samuel who were not approved by God David was called for. David was tending the flock when he was called for to be presented before Samuel the Prophet. He was anointed as the King of Israel according to God’s instructions. His beginning was very humble.

2. HE WAS A MAN OF FAITH

David was a man of Faith. He believed God in and for everything. While on the battle field he could not tolerate Goliath defying the armies of Israel. He enquired the ones present there and told them that he would slay Goliath to which David was taken to King Saul. King Saul thought David was a small boy and his age was not to fight battles. David remarked in 1 Samuel 17: 37, that the Lord who delivered him from the lion and the bear would deliver him from the Philistine. David marched against Goliath with no arms and ammunition but with a sling and few stones. As he marched against Goliath the whole army were mute spectators. Goliath charged against David with discouraging words but David marched in the Name of the Lord. With one sling he shot Goliath down. It required a small boy to destroy the huge giant. Faith is of no use if it is not operated upon. And faith with conditions is no faith.

3. DAVID WAS A WORSHIPPER

The Lord Jesus Christ said in John 4:23, 24 that God is seeking for worshippers who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. David is the best example of a worshipper. History says that the way David worshipped very painful. He twisted his body in worship. He forgot his position as a king when he worshipped God. It is recorded in the Bible that while he worshipped God his kingly garments which represented splendor, majesty, honor was falling off his body. Even his wife despised him while he worshipped God, yet he did not bother. His priority was God and worshipping God was his passion.

4. DAVID WAS A MAN WHO REVERED THE LORD’S ANOINTED

While David was highly regarded by the people King Saul became indignant. The hatred was so intense that King Saul thought of killing David. He followed David into caves and forests with the intention of killing him. While David also found a few instances where in he could have killed Saul but he did not because of the sole reason that he revered the Lord’s anointed. David teaches us that the Lord protects His anointed and it is important for us to revere his Servants.

5. DAVID WAS A TEACHABLE MAN

Nathan came and rebuked David for his sin with Bathsheba. The Bible declares that immediately he accepted his mistake and repented before God. David did not rebel as we see in some of the characters in the Bible. Someone said that one good sign of humility is being teachable. David being a king was quick to receive correction. Sometimes it is very important for us to receive correction even if someone younger to us corrects us. That is a true sign if humility.

6. DAVID WAS A MAN OF ENCOURAGEMENT

David wanted to build a Temple for God. God told him that it would not be him but his Son Solomon would be the one building the Temple. The Bible states that David provided with everything that was needed for building of the Temple. We are called to encourage one another.
