St. Mark 5:18-20

Topic: Go Home and Tell Somebody About Goodness of the Lord

In these passage of scriptures, we see Jesus Christ getting into a ship to leave a place called Gadarnes after he had cast out 6,000 demons out of a certain man. In St. Mark 5:18 says, “And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.”

You see, the man was so grateful and thankful for Jesus delivering him from the possession of demons in that he wanted to go on the ship with Jesus and follow him wherever he go. But Jesus would not let him go on the ship with him.

In St. Mark 5:19 says, “Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, “Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”

You see, rather than letting the man go on the ship with him, Jesus sent the man back home on a evangelistic crusade, and on this evangelistic crusade, the man was to go home to his wife, to his children, to his neighbor, to his relatives, to friends and to tell them the great things that the Lord had done for him and how the Lord had compassion on him.

You see, this man whom sends on a evangelistic crusade was once possessed with 6,000 demons, running around naked in the graveyard, screaming and hollering, and cutting himself with sharp carved stones. But when this man came in contact with Jesus, or that Jesus came in contact with him, Jesus delivered this man from the possession of demons.

You see, No longer was this man running around naked in the graveyard. This man now has some clothes on.

No longer was this man doing some crazy things, being violent to others or to himself, but now he is in his right mind sitting at the feet of Jesus.

And because Jesus Christ had greatly changed this man’s life, the Lord sent this man home to tell his loved ones and his friends about the great things that the Lord has done for him, and how the Lord had compassion on him.

And the scripture says in St. Mark 5:20 that “this man departed (from Jesus) and began to publish( that is to witness, preach, and tell people) in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him and all men did marvel.”

Everywhere this man went, he told everyone about the great things that Jesus had done for him. And all the people who had heard this man’s testimony were astonished because they remembered how this man had deserted his family to live among the tombs in the graveyard. They remembered how this man was running naked in the graveyard, and they remembered how violent this man was to others and himself. But every since he met Jesus, he was now a changed man. And the bible does say that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, all things become as new(2nd Corinthians 5:17).

And this man’s testimony had a positive effect on his community because prior to this man’s testimony, the people had kicked Jesus out of their town because when Jesus cast the 6,000 demons out of the man, the demons left the man and went into a herd of pigs nearby and the pigs committed suicide by running off a cliff into the Sea of Gallilee, which caused a hot dog shortage, bacon shortage, sausage shortage, chitlin shortage, and pork chops shortage. But when this man testified about how good the Lord is, and how he had delivered him from demon possession, and how he had been changed by the Lord, the people saw the change in the man, and they accepted the man’s testimony, in that, they wanted to meet Jesus for themselves.

St. Luke 8:40 says, “And it came to pass that when Jesus was returned ( that is, to the place where he left the man to do his evangelistic work, mission or crusade), the people gladly received him, for they were all waiting for him.”

And just as Jesus had sent this man on a evangelistic mission to go home and tell about the goodness of the Lord, He is also telling us to go home, and to tell somebody about the goodness of the Lord. Now notice that after Jesus had delivered this man from demon possession, he did not allow him to get on the ship, but he rather sent him home to evangelize. Likewise, notice when you had accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and was baptize, notice that Jesus did not bring into heaven just yet, but he kept you here on earth for this one purpose:
