Summary: Glorious Freedom

Psalm 124 Glorious Freedom

Psalm sung at Purim to commemorate the deliverance from Haman.

1. David's Praise - The Place for Safety

His Recollection of the Lord's Person - 1 If it had not been the Lord

His Recognition of the Lord's Position - who was on our side,

His Recitation of the Lord's Portion - now may Israel say;

His Reclamation of the Lord's People - 2 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

2. David's Protection - The Plan for Safety -

It Was -

Required - Nearly Devoured - 3 then they had swallowed us up quick

Real - Nearly Discouraged - when their wrath was kindled against us:

Robust - Nearly Drowned - 4 then the waters had overwhelmed us

Reliable - Nearly Defeated - the stream had gone over our soul: ‘torrent,’

Righteous - Nearly Destroyed - 5 then the proud waters had gone over our soul

3. David's Proclamation - The Praise for Safety

It's Focus - 6 Blessed be the Lord,

It's Force - who hath not given us

It's Favour - as a prey to their teeth.

4. David's Preservation - The Power for Safety

It's Freedom - 7 Our soul is escaped

It's Fact - as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers

It's Finality - the snare is broken,

Calvary covers it all, My past with its sin and stain,

My guilt and despair, Jesus took on Him there, And Calvary covers it all

It's Fidelity - and we are escaped.

5. David's Presentation - The Person for Safety

His Conclusion - 8 Our help

His Conviction - is in the name of the Lord, -

In His Power - 8 Our help is in (Present Tense)

In His Person - the name (Who He Is),

In His Position - of the Lord

His Confession - who made heaven and earth.
