Psalm 92:1-15 Giving Thanks

I. The Responsibility in Praise.

It's Pleasure - 1 It is a good thing

It's Praise - to give thanks unto the LORD

It's Profit - and to sing praises unto thy name,

It's Prudence - O most High

II. The Reliability in Praise.

For His Favour in the Morning -

2 to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning,

For His Faithfulness in the Night - and thy faithfulness every night.

III. The Reality in Praise.

It's Song - 3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery;

It's Sincerity - upon the harp

It's Solemnity - with a solemn sound.

IV. The Rationality in Praise. - Because Of -

His Character - 4 For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work

His Creation - 4 I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

His Compassion - 5 O LORD, how great are thy works!

His Counsel - 5 And thy thoughts are very deep.

His Control - 6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

Their Fault - 6 A brutish man - More beastly than human.

Their Failure - knoweth not

Their Folly - neither doth a fool understand this.

Their Flower -

7 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish.

Their Frailty - 7 It is that they shall be destroyed for ever.

His Constancy - 8 For thou, LORD, art most high for evermore.

His Consistency - 9 For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

His Consolation - 10 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn:

I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

His Condemnation - 11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies,

and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

V. The Recompense in Praise.

The Promise for the Righteous -

12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree:

The Profit of the Righteous - he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon

The Planting of the Righteous -

13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

A. Flourish In their fellowship with the Lord.

B. Flourish In their ministry for the Lord.

C. Flourish In their service to the Lord.

The Product of the Righteous -

14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.

They shall be -

A. Fruitful – bearing spiritual fruit to the glory of God.

B. Fat – being spiritually fed to the glory of God.

C. Flourishing – brandishing spiritual favour to the glory of God.

The Praise of the Righteous - 15 To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
