This sermon explores the enduring love of God, encouraging gratitude for His grace, learning from His goodness, and glorifying His greatness.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved congregation. It's a wonderful day to be here together in the house of the Lord, isn't it? A day to gather, to reflect, and to give thanks for the boundless grace, goodness, and greatness of our God.

Today, we have the privilege of turning to the book of Psalms, specifically Psalm 136, a psalm that echoes with the refrain, "His love endures forever.” A psalm that reminds us of the steadfast love of the Lord, a love that is constant, unchanging, and unfailing.

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. To Him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. Who by His understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever. Who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever. Who made the great lights— His love endures forever. The sun to govern the day, His love endures forever. The moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever."

This Psalm, beloved, is a song of gratitude, a hymn of praise, a testament to the enduring love of God. And it is this Psalm that will guide us today as we reflect on three main points: Gratitude for God's Grace, Gleaning from God's Goodness, and Glorifying God's Greatness.

As we prepare to unpack these truths today, I am reminded of a quote by the renowned preacher Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "To be grateful is to recognize the love of God in everything He has given us - and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him."

Isn't that a beautiful reminder, dear friends? Every breath, every moment, is a gift from our good God. A God who is not distant or detached, but a God who is intimately involved in every facet of our lives. A God whose grace we can be grateful for, whose goodness we can glean from, and whose greatness we can glorify.

So, let us pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day, for the opportunity to gather together in Your name. We thank You for Your Word, a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. As we reflect on Psalm 136 today, we ask that You open our hearts and minds to the truths within it. Help us to grasp the depth of Your grace, the vastness of Your goodness, and the magnitude of Your greatness. We pray all this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Gratitude for God's Grace

When we think about the grace of God, it's like a well that never runs dry. It's a constant, unending flow of love, mercy, and kindness that God pours out on us. It's not something we earn or deserve, but it's freely given to us. This grace is a gift, a gift that we are called to receive with gratitude.

Consider the sun that rises every morning. It doesn't rise because we've earned it or because we've done something to deserve it. It rises because that's what it does. It's a gift, a daily reminder of God's grace. And just like the sun, God's grace is new every morning. It's there when we wake up, it's there when we go to sleep, and it's there in every moment in between.

But how do we respond to this grace? How do we show our gratitude for this incredible gift? The first way is through our words. We can use our words to express our gratitude to God. We can thank Him for His grace, for His love, for His mercy. We can praise Him for who He is and what He has done. Our words have power, and when we use them to express our gratitude, we are acknowledging God's grace in our lives.

But our gratitude shouldn't stop at our words. It should also be reflected in our actions. When we truly understand the depth of God's grace, it should change the way we live. It should inspire us to live lives of love, kindness, and generosity. It should motivate us to serve others, to give of ourselves, and to share the good news of God's grace with those around us.

And then there's the matter of our hearts. Gratitude is not just about what we say or do, it's about the condition of our hearts. It's about having a heart that is humble, a heart that recognizes our need for God's grace. It's about having a heart that is thankful, a heart that appreciates the gift of God's grace. And it's about having a heart that is responsive, a heart that responds to God's grace with love and obedience.

But let's not forget about our minds. Our minds play a crucial role in our gratitude for God's grace. It's in our minds that we understand the concept of grace. It's in our minds that we remember the times when God's grace has been evident in our lives. And it's in our minds that we make the decision to be grateful, to express our gratitude through our words, our actions, our hearts, and our minds.
