GETTING USE TO GOD
Text: 1 Chronicles 13:1-12
Intro:
1. King David consults with the leaders of Israel.
** They gave him the wrong advice.
Nu 4:15 And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.
** You had better be careful where you get your advice
2. King David never talked down or about King Saul.
Observe, David makes no reflection upon Saul. He does not say,
"Saul never cared for the ark, at least in the latter end of this reign;"
3. They were trying to do something for God but in the wrong way.
**They knew the Philistines had out the Ark on a new cart.
** May be Abinadab and his two sons Ahio and Uzza said we have a new cart that we made just for this occasion.
** It don’t matter how many new carts you have or try it must be done the way God says!
1. THE PROCEDURE OF GETTING USE TO GOD.
A) When you are around something for a long time you can get use to it.
B) When you get use to something you do not fear it like you once did.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
1. We have gotten use to our bibles
2. We have gotten use to our church
3. We have gotten use to the Holy Ghost
Pr 1:7 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
C) When you get use to something you think you can control it.
Le 10:1 ¶ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not:2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
2. THE PRODUCT OF GETTING USE TO GOD.
A) Disobedience
Nu 4:5 And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering vail, and cover the ark of testimony with it: 6 And shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins, and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue, and shall put in the staves thereof.
1. They were not the sons of Kohath
2. They were not to touch the Ark
3. They were not to even look on the Ark
4. The ark was not to be put on a cart it was to be carried with the staves on the shoulders of the kohathnites.
** We think God will over look our little sins but he will not.
B) False worship
** They had a shout but they did not have God.-Vs 8
** They had music but not God.
** They had a large crowd but not God.-Vs 2
Re 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
** What has taken place of your worship and not just at church either.
C) You worry about the people more than God-Vs 4
Psalms 1 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
** We need to do what God said not what men want us to do!
Ps 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Ps 40:4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
D) We think we own more of God than anybody else.-Vs 9
