Deut 25:17-19

Amalek was the grandson of Esau,

What does that mean?

Esaus record in the bible was that of a man who despised his birthright

Ge 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

Here was the descendants of Esaus grandson, This spirit that was in Esau is now full blown, and not only does it now despise the birthright, it seeks to destroy all those who have received the promised inheritance of the birthright.

18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.

We need to draw your attention to how Israel came out of egypts bondage:

Ps 105:37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

Because of their obedience to Gods Command to eat the Lamb and put the blood over their doorposts a flood of divine healing was released to every single one of them.

Then God instituted a covenant of divine healing

Exe 15:25-26 And he (Moses) cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

But Somewhere between exe 15 and exe 17 the Israelites had broken covenant with God, they had become stubborn, rebellious,& selfwilled and they murmered and complained against Moses, and they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

It was then that amalek was able to come upon them and devour those hindmost and the feeble among them.

Feeble: Sick, weak, impotent, without strength, powerless

Faint: Weak, weary, This is a weakness that comes when Joy is lost, (The joy of the Lord is our strength,)

Where does the Joy of the Lord come from?

Joh 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

Weary: Full of labor, sufficient for oneself, Contented with ones lot though it is the slenderest or most meager.

Hindmost –Behind: To delay, hesitate, slack up, defer, remain to stay.

(Why sit we here until we die,) 2 Kings 7:3

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

The point I’m moving toward this morning is that As long as the children of Israel were keeping covenant with God there was no feeble among them. (God was their healer).

They never lost in battle, he was their protector, He went before them and behind them.

The spirit or characteristics of amalek still exist today, it hates those who value the birthright and seeks to destroy them, He watches the flock and when he sees someone who begins to drift, and lose their vision of their inheritance, and become indifferent to the covenant that is when he comes in like a roaring lion.

*What was David’s secret power as he faced Goliath?

(The covenant)

*What was Joshua’s secret power that made him a mighty leader and captain of Gods people? (The covenant)

*What was it that lifted Daniel above the corruption of his surroundings and made him a man of excellent spirit sought out by kings? (The covenant)

*What was it that enabled Jesus to say to deaf ears, and blind eyes be opened, and to the lame, rise up and walk, and to the sinful (thy sins be forgiven thee)?

The covenant.

We can talk about the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Blood of Jesus, and the authority of his name, But if we are not keeping covenant with him then they are just so much noise

It is not knowing about Jesus that gives us a position of Power in his kingdom, it is having a personal covenant relationship with him.

That covenant relationship is compared to a marriage, In a marriage covenant you are either faithful or unfaithful,

You can be unfaithful in a relationship and still be faithful to obligations or duties,

Many in the church live this way, but this does not honor the covenant.

The danger we face today is that of the sneak attack of the spirit of amalek, that is to say the overcoming and spoiling of those who have lingered, and fallen behind, become slothful, and indifferent.
