GETTING BACK TO THE BASICS OF LIFE

Text: Philippians 4:8-9

This text tells a great secret to life.

Jesus said He came to bring us life and more abundant. (John 10:10)

We always think of this abundant life as being more of what we think life is

The finer things, the stuff, the leisure.

In this passage we can see just a glimpse as to what the abundant life is all about.

Jesus told us His kingdom is not of this world. (John 18:36)

But we keep right on trying to force the world into it.

The text shows a way of achieving the things of God.

How much more abundant can it get than having the things of God?

As we look to the Word we will see the key to the abundance of God Is:

I. A Pure Heart

A. The pure in heart will see God. (Matt 5:8)

B. How do we get this pure heart.

1. Begins with salvation.

2. Follows with holiness.

C. See God in Heaven, but also here and now.

1. A pure heart is not cynical.

2. A pure heart is open to the things of God.

II. A Love That Is Blind

A. Agape type love.

1. Sacrificial.

2. Blind to the person. See the soul

a. Prejudice has to go.

b. Fear has to go.

1 Peter 4:8 Above all things have fervent love, for love shall cover a multitude of sins.

B. Brotherly Love phileo isn’t enough. ( John 21:15-17)

C. Only this blind love can lead to God.

1 John 4:20 If a man say he loves God and hates his brother he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

III. Faith That Is Fervently Grounded In Christ.

A. Not just believing in Him.

1. The devils believe and tremble. (James 2:19)

2. Having a relationship with Him.

B. Knowing that what He has promised He will do.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calls you, who also will do it.

C. Knowing that you know you are His. (Song I Am A Child Of God)

IV. A Hope That Endures For All Time.

A. Those who are in Christ Jesus have a hope.

Hebrews 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil;

B. Our hope is eternal not just temporal.

Conclusion: We are hopefully all looking for that abundant life.

It is not a life full of stuff.

It is a life that is full of the things of God.
