Summary: It is very important for us to get our house in order spiritually.

“Get Your House In Order Spiritually”

Scripture Reading: II Kings 20:1

““In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.””

Text: Ephesians 5:21-6:4

21 ¶ “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

1 ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

Introduction:

Last Sunday I introduced to you a new series entitled “Get Your House In Order” I told you that there was going to be three areas we were going to be looking at over the next few weeks. Those areas were: Spiritually, Physically, and Financially. This morning we are going to look at the first one, “Get Your House In Order Spiritually.”

There are going to be looking at Ephesians 5:21-6:4 in getting our houses in order Spiritually.

1.First, let us look at the man of the house. Chapter five, verses 23, 25, 28, 33 and chapter six verse 4. Men as being the head or (Leader) of the home we are responsible for being the spiritual example. Don’t expect your children to go to church faithfully if you are not going to be the leader you should be by taking them to church. Not just taking them to church but going to church faithfully yourself.

2.Second, let us look at the women of the house. Chapter five verses 22, 24, 33 and Proverbs 31:1-31. As the man is the leader of the home, there is a place for the woman. She is to be the teacher. Her job in the home is very important that is the reason why God did not intend for wives and mothers to work out side the home.

3.Third, let us look at the children of the house. Chapter six verses 1-3. Children you are to obey and honor your parents. Parents, if you want them to obey and honor you, you will need to honor them. Romans 12:10 says; “in honour preferring one another.” Honor means to respect. If we one respect then we must be respectful.

4.Fourth, let us look at parents of the house as a couple. “To protect our children from outside influences, we arm ourselves with things like parental control devices on the computer and movie reviews from trusted Christians like Focus on the Family “Plugged- in.” If we want to protect our children from various illnesses, we give them vaccinations and use medications when needed. But how do we protect them from the spiritual warfare that they will undoubtedly encounter in the culture and in the world?

Paul provides and answer in there verses: We must depend upon God’s strength and “the whole armor of God.” That means girding ourselves with truth, putting on the breastplate of righteousness, standing firm on the gospel given to us, and taking up the shield of faith. We need to equip ourselves with God’s Word to fend off attacks—and always, always pray. Is your family armed and ready?
