Psalm 46:1-3

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Eulogy

Dixie was a studious, serious Bible student. The first thing she did in the morning was to study the scriptures. She had multiple bibles with MANY pages of notes. She wrote so much that she had to get new bibles in order to keep studying.

Dixie made some hard choices in her life that gave her many challenges. The best choice she made was her commitment to serve and follow Jesus. She passed that desire onto her children as well.

Rod and Ardith told me that she had a direct personality. Only ask her what she thought if you wanted to hear the truth. She would “tell it like it is.”

She also had a sensitive side. Though she told truthful things she never wanted to be hurtful. “Speak the truth in love” was Paul’s admonition. She wanted to do both.

I see some of these qualities in Jesus. He was straightforward with the truths of God’s word but was also sensitive to the frailties of the people in most cases. Sometimes he gave people a dose of what they needed to hear as when he drove the money-changers out of the temple.

John 14:1-6 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Picture of a groom making preparation to marry his bride.

BTW, in the marriage proposal the groom offers the potential bride a cup of wine – she may accept or decline. Jesus offered the cup of wine to us at last supper.

Insula addition

The coming of the groom – no advanced notice – preparation is essential

1. Know No Fear – Let not your heart be troubled

• Death –

• Struggles of life

2. Know Our Destination -- In my Father's house are many rooms.

Real Place; Prepared Place; Happy Place

She was ready to “go home” – tired of fighting the health battle

3. Know Our Host (the LORD Brings Us to the Father) -- No one comes to the Father except through me.

Psalms 103:15-17

As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more. 17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,
