Series: Jesus- Son Of Man [#29]

FROM DESPERATION TO DELIVERANCE

Luke 8:40-56

Introduction:

Today, we come together to look at a powerful story of hope and change. This story shows us 2 women who are going through very hard times- 1 is sick and very weak, and the other is grieving because her daughter has died. It seems like there is no hope for them, but because they trusted Jesus and didn’t give up, He helps them and heals them in a miraculous way. Their stories remind us that no matter how difficult our problems are, God's love and power are always there to help us and give us new life.

We will think about how feeling desperate often leads us to find help and hope in Jesus. These stories teach us to bring our problems to Him with faith, trusting that He can turn our sadness into joy. The woman with the bleeding problem and Jairus’ daughter show us that Jesus cares deeply for us and can meet us when we need Him most. He can guide us from despair to hope and freedom through His love and kindness.

Luke 8:40-56

Desperation begins with…

1. A cry for help.

Desperation often starts with a cry for help. We see how both the woman who had bleeding and Jairus, whose daughter was sick, reached out to Jesus when they couldn’t fix their problems on their own. Their cries were not just feelings of sadness; they were acts of faith- Trusting that Jesus could help them. This teaches us that true faith means admitting we need God's help and turning to Him when we face difficult times. It reminds us that God is ready to show His power and bring healing when we humbly ask for His help.

This means we should learn to depend on God, especially when life feels overwhelming. When we are faced with problems beyond what we can handle, our 1st response should be to call out to God in prayer, believing that He hears us. This helps us shift from trying to rely only on ourselves to trusting in God's power. When we are honest and open with God in our desperation, it doesn’t mean we are weak; it means we are showing our faith. Through this, we grow closer to God and experience His help and grace in real ways.

Desperation begins with…

2. Faith in action.

Spiritually, desperation shows us that we realize we can't do everything on our own and need God's help. We see that when people are desperate, it can lead them to truly trust Jesus and do something about it- This is called faith in action. The woman who had been sick and Jairus, whose daughter was very sick, both showed that when they were desperate, they reached out to Jesus in faith. Their actions showed they believed Jesus could help, and this teaches us that real faith isn’t just believing in our hearts but also doing something because we trust Jesus will help us. Faith in action means surrendering to God's plan and stepping out in obedience, even if we’re unsure what will happen, because we believe Jesus has the power to help us.

This reminds us to trust Jesus enough to do something when we’re desperate. Instead of just feeling hopeless or waiting for things to change, we should pray earnestly, ask for help from others, and follow Jesus’ guidance. Just like Jairus hurried to find Jesus when his daughter was sick, we should act quickly when we’re in trouble, trusting that Jesus will meet us in our need. Faith in action turns feelings of desperation into opportunities for Jesus to work in our lives. It teaches us to trust Him enough to take steps, knowing that He responds to those who genuinely believe and act on that belief.

Desperation begins with…

3. Patience in God's timing.

The idea that "Desperation begins with patience in God's timing" teaches us that God is in control, and we need to trust His perfect plan. We see that both the woman with the bleeding problem and Jairus, whose daughter was sick, felt very desperate; but their patience and trust in Jesus’ timing led to their healing and hope. This shows us that when God seems slow, He is still working, and His delays are not setbacks but chances for us to grow in faith. Trusting God's timing helps us remember that He knows what is best, and His plans are always good, even when we don’t understand what He is doing right now.

Trusting in God's timing means we choose to wait patiently instead of rushing to solve things ourselves. When we feel desperate, we can pray, read the Bible, and talk with other believers to help us stay calm and hopeful. We can also remember times when God has helped us before, which gives us confidence that He is still working, even if we don’t see it yet. By practicing patience, we can stay peaceful during difficult times and grow closer to God. Learning to wait on Him helps us not only see His deliverance but also deepen our relationship with Him, trusting that His timing is always perfect.
