Psalm 4
1. David's Discouragement -1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
i. The Task in Prayer - Hear me when I call,
ii. The Target in Prayer - O God of my righteousness
iii. The Testimony - thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress;
iv The Tenacity in Prayer - have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer
2. David's Desire -
i. For Triumph - 2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame?
ii. For Truth - how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing?
iii. For Trust - 3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself:
iv. For Tribute - the Lord will hear when I call unto him. Selah
3. David's Determination -
i. For Separation - 4 Stand in awe, and sin not:
ii. For Supplication - commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
iii. For Sanctification - 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
iv. For Salvation - 6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
4. David's Delight - 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
i. The Source of Joy - 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
ii. The Supply of Joy - more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
iii. The Satisfaction - 8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep
iv. The Security - for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
